Yesterday I was in a tournament for my local area in the mens blue and red belt heavy weight division. The guy I fought against had some very good hands and got his points on that and bulling me out of the ring. Not a single kick mind you, but anyway he must have uppercutted me 4 or 5 times before the 2 rounds was up. I learned two valuable things:
1. I have a good chin, despite chewing being a good deal harder (impossible) afterwards. 2. I need to learn to control close range or keep my opponent at long range. Anyone else do that thing after a fight where you go over and over it thinking "if only I had done this!"? I'm feeling like a total dummy because at the end of the second round I brought out a high chamber and it stumped him, he just stopped and looked at my foot. WHY THE HELL DIDN'T I DO THAT SOONER?! I use it all the time in the dojang! Gah! ![]()

thats the problem with point sparring, the only way to stop them type of fighters without giving away points is to keep on your toes keep him away with some quick kicks and basically out box them with your hands. People with good hands are usually very direct, they come in straight and hard so you need to keep on your toes and more around the ring apposed to just forwards and backwards. Normally (without the points) I tend to keep in tight once they get close to me and basically smother them, get a thai grip and load in some knees from there. Obviously though its not a great tactic in point sparring.
