Does anyone know of a chest protector that is solid and not foam? I would like to wear something during class to protect my chest just in case I get hit in three step sparring drills. Had all of my ribs broken in a car crash about 15 years ago.

Macho makes a good chest protector, it has a hard plastic shield in it that flexes. They are a bit pricey but they would work for you. They are good on taking single hard shots, but fast repeated shots are a weakness. If you hit it before it rebounds you take a lot of the force of the hit.
I personally don't like chest protectors, I think they limit mobility and lead to getting hit more.
