Though not primarily MA...
I am finding my self to be incredibly stubborn these days. I don't care to deal with fools and only by the grace of God and my Mother's teachings do I not tell people what I think they are in colorful language - or smack them across the lips as they deserve (credit my instructor for this) There are those women in dire need of a drink and an escort who give frustrated, underapreciated middle aged women like myself a bad reputation, not being able to read for comprehention or civilized conduct in the semi public setting of an internet forum (computers for women should come with a hormone meter, that certain time of the month it needs to refuse to turn on, I tell you!) And then there are parents that tell their children how worthless they are, bound for hell, an embarrassment. What the hell is wrong with people?! I never gave it much thought, but behavior like that irks me. It is not right. It is against my life principles. I am not sure, is it that the Martial Arts have brought this out in me, or because of these values I am drawn to the values the Martial Arts teach? I am no angel, by any means...but come on! I am unwilling to let issues go though the return, time after time, again and again, wearing on you, tire you out. Because I think it's not right. Ok, rant over...

You go, grrrl! LOL!
You reminded me of one of my favorite fantasies: "You hear of someone (usually some celebrity) acting particularly stupid or immoral or vile. You get in your car and drive to the airport, land at some airport close to the perpetrator's place of residence, rent a car and drive for three hours to their home. Walk up to their front door and ring the doorbell. They answer and you confirm their identity; "Excuse me, are you (blank)?" "Yes." "The same (blank) who was recently reported to have been caught smoking a crack pipe and talking on your cell phone while driving a car with a back seat full of children, none of them wearing seat belts and when the cop stopped you, you called your lawyer and had the cop suspended without pay?" "Uh, yes." SLAP!!! next stop, lawyer. BTW- what's your beef? What brought on your rant? ![]()

The middle aged frustrated women in need of some relieve and a few young friends with incredible foolish parents. It must be full moon...
I have been raised to respect others and just because I can't see them does not mean I can call them names (the curse of the net). Sometimes it take a little more effort to not speak my mind in colorful ways. I try to raise my child in the same way, encouraging any and all talents that might slumber withing this unfinished mind. I do get mean sometimes, and unfair. But I also go back and apologize, as a mature human being should. IMHO there is no reason to call a young emotional girl 'worthless' or a talented young man lazy while he is going to college and holds down a job! (he actually was called worse yet...to the point of the parent claiming embarrassment about the relations to said young man....heaven help me, I don't get it!) Of course up close and personal, all of this does usually not come to light as much. Or it's the poor parents, struck with these difficult children...I see plenty of wild kids in class. Many of them just are what they are: Kids full of energy! Of course they will tune you out at times. That's a kid for you. But when you see them interact withe so called parent in the lobby...all becomes clear! Parents not willing to step up and do what is right for the kid. Setting boundaries and enforce them, not by all means, but with fairness and understanding. The they are send to MA class for the instructors to 'jerk a knot in them' well, I can do that. But what good does it do if I have the kid for 30-45 minutes a day, 2-3 times a week and at home he or she gets away with murder?! Only too soon does little precious turn into problem child...and the poor helpless parents are victimized...

As for telling the young emotional girl she's worthless or the lad working and putting himself through school, just sounds like parents with piss poor communication skills on the parents part. ahhh feel your pain (or atleast I'll try to!).

I dont undertand what this has to do with korean martial arts, or how you start a thread with statements like this. remember, people hate those traits they see most in themselves. As you are calling people names and insulting them, you are critisizing others for doing the same.

LOL! Being female myself, I guess I can say it like this. No, it was a 'bang the head against the wall' moment. No, I am not calling people names. I try not to, but sometimes I have to white knuckle it to fend of temptation. No, it has nothing to do with Korean Martial arts - other that I was wondering if my exposure to them has made me come to the stance I am taking on the matter or if I was drawn to the Martial Arts because of the mind set... Yes I am critizising folks for name calling, because in a civilized environment, even in a heated debate there is no room for such foolishness. ] Which brings me to the question: At what point do you no longer take the high road? On an internet forum...or in real life... At what point will it be worthy to earn the permanent boot on a website? And here we are getting back to the Martial Arts - or rather the tenets I have come to embrace: Honor - the gift I give myself, not to use bad language and to carry myself with dignity... Courtesy - to treat others as I want to be treated myself Integrity - to adhere to a code of moral values and ethics, to stand by what is right Perseverance - to never give up in the face of a challenge Self Control - to not let emotions control my actions Courage - to not tolerate injustice Community - the responsibility to contribute to society regardless of my position in life. And let me tell you, making these principles known in public will often be used as argument against you, when all else fails... If that does not explain my frustration - feel free to drop me a PM and I will gladly link you to the b*tchfest! ![]()

Sometimes, you have to vote with your feet. There's a point where it doesn't matter what you intended, as much as how you were perceived or portrayed. What is 'important' is how satisfied you were/are with your own actions! |
