Here you go. Be sure to post a video of your practice or your test so we can all see how well your training is going! Good luck Matt. |

Make sure you are watching the form of your organization....
looks totally different from what I was taught as Dan Gun...

Oh it's Dan Gun but very weak and watered down his foot work is all wrong, blocks and punches very weak I know if I did that in a test at my club I would not be passing. Not sure who he is but I am glad I am not being taught by him ....

Might be completely wrong. I'm not a taekwondo guy and never have been. I just put those up because no one else seemed to want to help. Since you guys are better judges of what is good and what isn't, why don't you assist?

LOL, I am challenged in finding those tings.
But my caveat stands. I do not feel comfortable pulling up videos for somebody to study - a new student that is. There are so many organizations these days and all try to put their mark on the Art. The form has some elements of what I remember to be be my original Dan Gun...since we have undergone changes and the form got a total overhaul. I understand other clubs do so as well on occasion. (It's a mess, that's what it is....but hey nobody asks me - ever)

No offense, but you're already trying to influence the study of another person if you criticize what's been put up. You're saying "That's not the right way to do that," and disqualifying something else in favor of something you are able to correctly judge. I'm sorry, but your caveat is totally self-serving.
If you're willing to critique, you should also be willing to share. As it is, your criticisms are sharing, but only in the negative sense. For balance, it might be good to include a positive example of what you think is better. If you like, go ahead and put out a disclaimer that what you're sharing is ONLY your system's way of doing things. In either case, don't kid yourself into thinking that being critical isn't the exact same thing as trying to influence someone's study. They are the same animal. One just influences by saying "Don't do that" and the other by saying "Do this." That's more aimed at back kick than you, GranFire, but I still think Matt might benefit from some well-meant advice. He does, after all, have a full time instructor to help him sort out the differences. |

Well the best advice would be to listen and learn from his instructor as any thing he finds on the net may not be what he is being taught in class and will pick up bad habits trying to follow some vid. clip. And Mike I was trying to say that is not the form I was taught so depending on what his club teaches he should stay away from the net to learn ... I am very picky when it comes to patterens as my head instructor received his first dan from General Choi and is now a 7th dan and still teaches the same patteren he was taught
