Is that ATA fall nationals? if so there should be about 20,000 competitors or more.

I went to nationals once. But my entry got in late and my ring ended up being men 18 to 38 first through 4th degrees. A plane of STF guys got in late and joined our ring for sparring so they could go against other people rather than just themselves. So we actually had about 32 people in the ring. It was a mess and a bit scarry.

I was the only first degree. But I took Third place in sparring.

Wow, that would be scarey. They had people pretty well divided up today. But there are so many, I never saw so many black belts in my life, from all over the country too.
My son was first in form and 2nd in sparring.
But some of the best people from my school including the teachers didn't place. They always seem perfect, but this type of competition really shows how much pressure they are under.
So many Masters too, I saw some at a competition this past Aug, I think it was lthe East Coast something.

I have not been competing for a few years due to tearing both my hamstrings. I kept reinjuring them so I have just spent time working on things and tryng to avoid any more injuries till i'm back to 100%.

A few of my students will probably end up going next year, but no body wanted to this year.

I am sick of people pissing on TKD!!! Yes ti might not be the most efective martial art system> But how many times do you have to fight a trained individual on the street. Most attaackers are not well rounded martial artist. TKD for those who love it do it because iot is fun. In the past 13 years I have trained is several different styles. 10 years it was in TKD 3 in JKD 2 in jujitsu, with 5 dfferent schools and the only place where I could spar every night was a tkd school and sparrining is the most fun of all. I will say that the most helpless situation that I have found myself in was rolling with some jujitsu guys. But even at the Jujitsu schools I have trained at we couldn't roll every night. The TKD schools had the most flexible schedules for those of us that have to work and are not school owners that have the luxery of being able to train in multiple arts. I am sick of seeing svhools that offer incredible martial arts systems like KALI ior JKD or Brazilian but only offer it 2 times a week for 99 dollars a month

There is nothing wrong with TKD, it's what you make of it. Don't let them get to you. Most of these guys spend more time on the net then in training. And most of them have never even tried TKD for any length of time to see if there was anything useful in it.

Just relax Frustrated, people like to condemn what they don't do and don't understand to reassure themselves that what they ARE doing is enough. It's all about ego and self reassurance and insecurity. I see it on tons of forums and in tons of martial arts schools. I don't mean to toot my own horn but I've always wanted to learn EVERYTHING and have always had an open mind when it comes to martial arts, I think it's a very healthy attitude to take and makes me a better martial artist because of it.

So what? They'll still kick the crap out of you if you try some of the crap taught at many TKD schools.

I posted my comments on this thread not because of this thread entirely but a cumaltion of posts that I have read. In theSchool that I originaly trained TKD we sparred every night and took our beatings as we should I have not found another school that matched it. Thai Bri I realize that the hands are the great equalizers and I am not going to try to do a jump 360 heel kick on street thug I probably wouldn't kick at all. Are you going to do a little Muay Thai danse before he attacks ,no! THe fact is that during that time there were a lot of good students in the school and you are only as good as the people that you train with( to a certain extent) You can be a king among peons at many schools. I have seen a terrible apathy that has develolped some schools. And that is why I am frustrated the lack of decent instructors and people to train with. I am not a school owner but an exceptional student. I do not have the luxery to train in the mornings with those who what to be professionals or school owners. All I want is a good sparring match 2 or 3 times a week and flexible schedule because there is other things more important than all of this BS.
