Our organization is WTF-Kukkiwonn affiliated. We are not affiliated with the USTU. Just as well-The USTU is having a lot of problems right now. Also, the USTU is a Jidokwan organization. Our organization is Chung Do Kwan. So we are connected to the Chung Do Kwan in Korea, and our founder is on the board of the WTF, but we are not connected with the USTU. It's not as complicated as it sounds.

the USPS is no longer run by the government. It was until a few years ago and then it was privatized. But they still do have some left overs from when the government ran it.

As a matter of fact, in our tournament program we have a photo of our President when he was fighting in Korea with his team. In this photo is ITF founder Gen. Choi and Mr. Uhm (Chung Do Kwan President) together. So not only are Chung Do Kwan/Oh Do Kwan related, but our President knew both Heads.

MTKD,
Gen. Choi had an honorary BB from the Chung Do Kwan ... and before the MA government was formed (KUKKIWON) the Oh Do Kwan only accepted den certificates from the CHung Do Kwan. All other BB holders from other kwans upon joining the military had to be retested! Furthermore, Nam Tae Hi was for many years one of Gen. CHoi's closest allies! Unfortunantly, both Gen. Choi and Master Nam were rebuked by the CHung Do Kwan ![]() TAEKWON! SPOOKEY |

Yes, when Gen. Choi instituted Tae Kwon Do training in the army, only Chung Do Kwan and Oh Do Kwan BB were accepted. All other BB had to retest, because Choi did not trust the quality of their technique. This caused a lot of friction between the CDK/ODK and the other schools at first. Eventually, ODK became its own entity seperate from either CDK or the military. It eventually led to the formation of the ITF. The other organizations led to the founding of the KTA/WTF.

Spookey,
You'd be surprised what I know Anyway, unlike many organizations which badmouth the WTF or the ITF, I prefer to accept what is for what is. It is pointless to say ITF or WTF technique is better. Our organization founder has stated there is nothing wrong with ITF technique, the only difference is politics. He even thinks highly of Gen Choi's book. |

Our organization is affiliated with the WTF, and our Instructor is 9th Dan WTF. However, we do not compete in national events sponsored by the USTU. We do compete in private events sponsored by our Organization that cooperate with other organization, most often organizations led by friend/colleagues of our instructor. For example, this summer some of our black belts will go to Peru to compete in an international tournament hosted by an instructor who is friendly with ours. Other instructors and their students will be there as well. However, it is not a PATU-sponsored tournament or anything like that.
Additionally, the Tae Kwon Do Instructor in Australia who coordinated the free fighting at the 2000 Sydney Games is a friend of our Instructor. We received a letter from him inviting our president to Australia to attend the Games as his guest. I understand that the USOC is in the process of revoking the USTU's NGB status. Meaning not only will they not be qualified to send Olympic competitors, but the USTU will no longer be allowed to represent the WTF. |

It's also going to be very interesting to see what becomes of the ITF with Gen. Choi gone. I knew as soon as I read his obituary that the ITF would have problems. The ITF was basically built around his legacy, personality, and charisma. With him gone, I didn't think the ITF would be able to carry on unscathed without majot shakeups, such as is happening now. You currently have three people claiming to lead the ITF (Jung Hwa Choi and the two others). I think that whatever happens legally as a result of this conflict, even if Choi's son is allowed to carry on the ITF name, there will be irreparable harm and the ITF will never be the same.
Whenever you have the death of an organization or school founder, even if an heir is decided on, you will always have students who will go their own way because the original leader who chose the legacy is no longer there to to guide things. You can't tell me the ATA will carry on as before with GM Lee gone. |
