Default Gen. Choi's Book: Good & Humorous

Has anyone read General Choi Hong Hi's book, "TaeKwon-Do?" It's quite a fascinating piece of literature, although at times it gets downright humorous... For example, there's quite a lot of information regarding military etiquette in TKD. One such lesson teaches that a student must never object to his master's wishes, even though his master is in the wrong. How's that for brainwashing?...

There's more... The book shows TKD's applications against soldiers with machine guns. Yes, a knife hand followed by reverse punch can defeat an armed soldier, or so this book says. One has to really wonder how many people can really get into such an encounter. In all fairness, the soldier would simply point and shoot.

The most interesting thing about the book is that it is very thorough in covering every aspect of TKD: history (questionable), theory & practice, techniques, applications & original forms.

You know what, dude... You need to take a good look in the mirror and ask yourself, "...you have dishonored my family and you have dishonored the shaolin temple..." Then, you can stop following me around because we need "emotional content."

"Try again! With meeee...."

How does one ask oneself a statement?

Also, he's following you around because you called him and everyone else on this forum a racist.

In all seriousness, I have no proof that Choi was a racist. I have no idea what kind of fellow he was.

All I know is that he help organize the deadliest martial art in the world, next to Ninjutsu.

That's why the U.S. had to win the Korean war.... Korea's Generals would rather use knife hands instead of real knives. And they called a sloppy version of the cross, a "reverse punch."

I've seen the entire TKD encyclopedia. I found it interesting and it contains many things that just aren't taught in most dojangs. If you look at the close up pictures of the hands and feet you can tell someone was training in a very serious manner. If someone teaches ITF TKD they really should have these as a reference.

BadgerFu57, your ignorance astounds me... I suppose that North Korea having the support of China had nothing to do with the United States intervining with the war... If you look at facts, the South Korean Army has to date one of the most feared armys in the world. During the Vietnam conflict, a ROKMC platoon of about 13 people wiped out around 400 NVA soldiers. The ROKMC had a kill ratio of 25:1. I guess that their training sucked major donkey balls... Just to show i'm not making this up, here's the link.

...It is not as easy as you make it seem. Try pointing a 40" Rifle at a scared man less than 20" away from you...now imagine he grabs to reciever and bashes you in the head, pokes your eye out of socket, and cracks your femur with his foot!
Hell, if it was as easy as point and click why do they use those darn bayonets, and why do they have knives, and why wouldn't a battle hardend VET fight with all he has even when out armed!
Glad you arent my protective agent! And what race was Gen. Choi prejudice against?
Please grace me with your superior knowledge!

Truly this book is one of the reason I quit TKD. It is full of BS. It is obvious that Choi trained hard, but his knowledge of what really works had to have been very limited. He got second hand karate. He obviously misunderstood the applications of the techniques. TKD in its early days was nothing more than warmed over karate poorly done and misunderstood. This guy was the founder and most knowledgeable expert at the time!
