Default Something holds me back

Whenever I am about to get into a fight I get really angry but when I throw a punch or shove, some feeling or something holds back some of the power and it feels weak. How do I get rid of that?

How often do you work on a heavy bag?

Getting angry is what's holding you back. Having ire does not make you stronger, it only hinders you. You can think of it similarly to the way sugar works on your body as opposed to starch. Nervousness also prevents you from attacking with more power; you can't do your best when your CNS is fidgety. Try different ways to meditate. You can think of absolutely nothing and just exist, you can think about people trying to attack you while you are calm, and other things. Having an unconstrained demeanor and sharp focus is what will put your heavy training at better heights. Have you ever felt uncomfortable when walking outside or around people? When you are around those people, focus on relaxing yourself as if they weren't there. Meditating in different ways will help you in different situations. Let your training hit the bag, not your nerves.

A heavy bag is a punching bag that is heavy and usually hangs by chains. But I have to disagree with the last post. Anger actually does give you power, But you cannot let it control you.

Putting anger behind your punches increases your power dramatically. And will usually let you block out more pain because you want this person taken out all the more.

But then again anger can be bad if you are being stupid and just trying to punch, punch, punch. You will have no defense and the guy will only need a few well placed hits. But that is only if you are fighting someone who has actually trained. Most fights are between people who have no idea what they are doing. They are just swinging their arms, throwing roundhouse punches and not doing any damage. So most of the time anger can be a good factor, if you know what you are doing.

Once again, the way anger affects your strength is similar to the difference between sugar and starch. Sugar can be like anger, giving you quick outbursts of energy, but for a short time. Starch does not give the same hyperactivity, but the energy it gives lasts for long periods of time (pasta has a lot of starch, which is why marathon runners eat pasta before they start). Anger can sharpen your focus a bit, give you something to work for, and also allow you to strike faster than average, but it is nothing compared to a calm, mentally and physically trained body with preparation in your pocket. The same way that people on the street and in schools fight (not knowing what they're doing and lacking much power) is similar to anger versus controlled and trained power.

You're afraid to hurt people.

dude anger definatly gives you ALOT more power. I got mad and i bent steel and cracked a 6x6 piece of wood just punching a heavy bag. I was mad and i blocked it out and my power was WAY higher. Just be sure not to be to reckless or you might hurt yourself and not find out till the next day or so like i did!

He is 15 years old. Anger management can be a bit of an issue at that age.

You might want to ask some "official" people about that anger subject. I'm sure you will get the same response (or at least similar) from them. Anger is a mental condition that you get by remembering something that happened or is happening (something like remembering a bad day in the past). What you're talking about it throwing attacks with fierce punches kicks and other moves. That is not anger; you're just psyching yourself up to use more strength by focusing harder, but unless you know how to control it you'll be reckless (just like you and others have said). Using that type of might while staying unnerved is better than unleashing brute force with tense muscles and nerves, since you you can endure for a longer period of time and stay sharper. What you're talking about does give you a lot of power, but it's not anger. You CAN use anger to boost your power, but trust me, it can't be controlled the way you say it can. As soon as you start to gain control, it becomes something else; what I just talked about. If you still disagree with that, you might want to read some books and/or ask a few people (and you know what kind of people I'm talking about).
