Default increasing power and speed of punches

ya i really want to increase my punching power and increase my speed of my punches

does anyone no any good ways of increasing it.

i do a few that i believe work, like bench pressing, doing a lot of pushups, and puching my ground punching bag.

i know theres many other ways, i just wanted to here if any of u had any better ideas.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
and another thing i want to know if my strength is weak average or what ever

tell me what u think

lets see i weigh 135 i bench 245 im only 5'6.

once or twice a week i do at least 250 pushups or more if i feel strong at the time, i would do it more, but it takes everything out of me, i hate doing them cuz there so d**n painful, i do the first 60 like nothin, then from there on out it is a hell of pain. Iv'e only reached 300 pushups once, and it hurt so bad it was unbelievable, afterwards i cant pick up my arms or anything, i have so much sweat on me that it looks like i just got out of the shower.

Well i was wondering isnt there a way to dull that pain that i feel while doing pushups, because i have a goal to reach 1000 pushups in one day, and no matter what people say i will get it.I just want to make the power of my punches umbearable, i want to be able to knock people out in one punch.

i get crap at school everyday because i look small, so they dont believe that i bench 245 and almost everyone says its like impossible to do more than 100 pushups, and dont believe me, so im like whatever, but there has been a few witness's that have seen me do over 200 pushups many times. My weight training teacher knows thats i bench 245 cuz he sees me 3 times a week at school working doing sets of 5 with 210.

My arms arent even that big there only 14 in a half inches wide and my forearms are 13 in a half inches wide.

and is it bad for me to do so many pushups, but even if it is im still gonna do them.

dude I'd say your in pretty good shape, your benching just shy of twice your body weight.
And arms don't have much to do with push-ups its pectoral mostly with some tricep.

As far as increasing punching speed I train with four pound boxing gloves, works for me.

To increase punching power you need to learn to transfer weight through from your hip using your fist as a vehicle for all your body weight.

Oh yeah, and 245lbs is a hell of acomplishment keep pushin for 1000.

Haha first is it free weight, on a smith (track) or machine that your benching, cause i bench 270 free weight twice... and I can only do like 30 pushups in a row.... sooo no offense but I doubt your doing 245... unless it is on a machine which is practical... i know a kid who is 5'6 and 130... this kid is jakked and plays football and everything... he benches 190 on a track.... sooo no offense but I find it really hard to believe you do that... anyway about yoru punching power, think about it.... look at boxers.... they dont have huge pecs ... they have big lats.... you have to use your entire body to punch and then use your lats to project yoru arm... also triceps help... benching will help but you need technique before anymore strength... anyway if you can do 245 then good for you but I highly doubt it because I work out everyday at my school and the only kids I've seen bench 250+ are one huge guy who was on steroids.. .the 310 pound centre lineman ... me... and another guy on steroids... and my weightlifting friend... but i dunno how he did it cause hes usually at 220 .... but anyway, good luck with the punching

like everyone else has said...
work on your form + technique...

work on transferring your weight, pivoting, and putting your hips into it.

the smallest guy can have the most deadliest punch if their form + technique is perfected (i.e. bruce lee) ... imagine a bigger guy /w that technique + form?

And... if yer goal is to have a one knockout punch power... then i dunno bout that. One punch won't get you anywhere whether its on the street or in the ring. Usually, the one's who do have that "one punch knockout power" get that punch in after a setup.

So, what I'm trying to say, is to not limit yourself to that goal... its not static on its own - rather, it involves a whole system to train.

With speed ... you may have to change your weight workouts ... you want the loose - small muscles for speed... not huge arms n a huge muscle... so instead of doing 3 sets (10-12, 8-10, and 4-6) of heavy weights, you may want to decrease weights but do the reps faster and burst out when pushin up.

As regards to your shape, ... looks like yer in good shape. Just keep doing what you're doing or ask a trainer for their advice.

Good lucl

training ur punches on a bag with gloves and extra weights around ur wrists (or just heavy gloves)

if u train a while with such weights and remove em, and punch again u'll see ur arms are as light as a feather increases power & speed i think ^^

how much extra weights do you use (and what is yer weight)

I was thinking of getting wrist weights ... but not sure which weight amount i should get.

Also, for any thai boxers out there ... or similar kickers... do any of you recommend this for training for kicks? [ie. put ankle weights on]

Hey, In my opinion. Weights on your wrists and ankles aren't the best method of achieving a faster punch or kick, even though it well get results. The best results come from speed. Which would come from not using weights on your wrists and ankles in my experiances, when punching- don't worry about whether your pushing your physical form to their limits but relaxing and observing the speed of your punches, whether their on punchbag or in the air. For the boffins out there, you'll know that in the formula for ' Force ' speed is sqaured whereas power is not. So strength, what you will get from your weights is not as important in the equation for power. Speedballs is a good piece of equipment for improving speed, hence the name. Technique, seems from my training to be so vital, whereas strength only enhances that of the technique, yet not vice versa. A chinese proverb- ' An inch of time is an inch of gold but you can't buy that inch of time with an inch of gold. '
May leave you something to think on but lastly, maybe for those who are inexperianced(hard to tell since its the net) But when you punch it should be one movement, Simultaneous. Your legs should pivot as your upper bodys twists, then when unleashing; your body should move in one so you absolutely believe all your force is moving to one designated area, pinpointed infact. Every once of power should be in your fist.

What's the most pushup's anyone can do-without stopping!?
Try it on your finger's then!!
It's for grabbing/grip strength when you line them up for the next punch or whatever.(or...ability to keep them away from you!!)=STRENGTHduh

In the most un-bragging way... I can do thirty press ups on my fingers right to the floor. I can also do one handed two finger and one thumb push ups- 5 in total. I doubt this is amazing to some, since i know theres a few that can do much more impressive stuff as far as finger press ups go.

Egads, I havn't done pushups in years... My bad but this old thread brought back memories. This kid sounds a bit like me at that age. At 19 i weighed 145 and had similar strength and endurance. I set unoffical HS records jumping rope and on the peg board. It's a climbing device on a wall, you hold big dowels in your hands put them in the holes on the board and pull yourself up by moving the dowels into the next set of holes. It's off the ground about 7-1/2 feet so ya can't use your legs. At 5-8" I couldn't quite reach the bottom holes. Up and down and back up and down 13 times never came off or missed any of the 10 sets of holes...

Rock climbing and that stupid device biult up hand and finger strength that blew my Judo instructors away. I cut a lot of firewood growing up in the sticks, chainsaws do wonders for your hands and forearms too not to mention splitting all that wood the old fashion way with an axe or splitting maul, wedges and a big ass hammer. Work out? what's THAT? Pushups? Naaahhh....

o kay, I can do 60 with my 6 year old 65 pound daughter on my back but it's a burn for the last 15 or so!! Are my arms ever PUMPED! LOL I suck... Fat and old!

Thanks guys, I'm sure I'll be sore tomorrow!
