I've been there, done that. I have extensive experience in military service. It was once very easy for me to kill but I met Jesus in the true Church of Christ. He was the key to healing all my wounds, both from war and from when I was forced to run away from home and join the military because of the abuse.

Nope, just experienced a little bit out in the war doing convoy escorts to start then some trigger time as a DM (designated marksman). No Dirty Harry type stories or willingness to brag about being able to kill, I just know a little bit.

As I have already said, if they're attacking me they're coming back bleeding. I may bleed a bit too, but its a small price to pay for the spiting (to steal my favorite line from Mallrats ). I try to respect some human life, but let's face it, some people are just animals out there and need to be put down. I'm not claiming I know everything, I'm just saying your first encounter seems rather fictional and the second, if real as well, hardly classifies as a life-or-death encounter. If they're running away from you, chances are they weren't trying to kill you from the start.

it wasn't done on purpose. on the way to my fiancee it just so happens that I just need to pass through a dangerous hood. It just so happens there was just too much booze in the air that day.

I just know a little bit myself and I know myself a whole lot. when I said "I think" i'm willing to cross the line it wasn't adolescent bragging to show off to his high school buds. It was actually a certain concern for my mental state because my shrink (i'm not a whack job its just company evaluation and stuff) tells me i have sociopathic tendencies. I.e. i can easilly get over anything. So though though i've never done its almost a certainty that it can get to that.

I expected as much, I knew you were closely aquainted with life and death. Your disdain for my initial post shows someone who has seen bllod and knows that it's not pretty. I know that only too well.

thanks for the hugely different tone and thanks for sharing your insight. This is what I meant the thread for.

the first encounter ended because they got what they came for the, phone but they woulda killed to get it. I fought back because the threat was serious, i didn't provoke them.

the second ran away but as I said it seemed to me like a tactical retreat, which is why I also ran away when they left.

but it's nice to see that we can see certain things eye to eye intelligently.

True, but many biblical models also came from a military background. Kind David being the most prominent. Yet he was a man after God's own heart. He had a clear conscience because he knew he was doing God's will.

But in today's world where God's voice is not as audible how do people of strong religous convictions or simply high moral standards clear their conscience with out copping out to religous discrimination or following a holy war?

Or if not the military, maybe a cop, if you kill in a shoot out what clearly remind's you that you were simply doing your duty. How does this apply to civilians?

Yes the military isn't an easy plac to be in. And ironically if you enter the service because killing is easy for you you might end up as a liability whenyou have a gun in your hands. From what I know snipers have to be very sober not trigger happpy people. Exaclty because life and death is in your hands.

From what I've seen, that's definitely an accurate statement. Snipers (as a whole) are about the most oddball group of guys I've ever run acrossed.

Setting the whole " Is it right to take someones life" arguement aside for a moment, using the military as an example of having the will to kill is a poor choice. No operator in the military gets to choose his targets. He's following orders, either a specific target or a specific set of conditions under which he is allowed to use deadly force. There was an article published last week in The Army Times where a US Army SSgt. shot and killed a man in Iraq. He claims the man was injured and he was "putting him out of his misery". He has been charged with 2nd degree murder for the death.
Even in the military, if you take someones life without recieving authorization, you will face the same punishment that any civilian would.
