Hey, Im a junior in high school and Im also an assitant wrestling coach for middle school kids. Well one of the kids I work with came to me with a problem. They usually do and most of the time its girl problems, drugs, drinking, and problems on the team. The kid was like "I think I'm gay" and yeah I was reallly shocked. I told him it was okay and wed talk next week if he wanted. What do I tell him? Ive never been in a situation like this.

Wow, that's a tough one. Of course there is nothing wrong with being gay, it's not like it changes his status of being a respectable human being with the same rights as any of us. The problem with the situation is that in junior high, it does. You don't want to tell him that it's o.k. and to come out to the whole school, because at that age it would make school pretty frickin difficult. But then, if you tell him to keep it quiet, he may get the impression that it's something to feel shameful about. I'm afraid that you are in quite a pickle there mt guy. Perhaps a school counseler or someone of that nature, maybe from his church, would be the one's to take it up with.

You tell him to be realistic.
Ask him..."How do you think this?" Tell him.."It's your body and no one can tell you what to do with it!". ![]()

Look and see if the school has any clubs like the Gay-Straight Alliance, or anything, check if the surrounding community has a decent GLBT community, with things like Gay and Lesbian Centers...these things may be able to help give him support if he feels like he's being ostricized in school due to his sexual orientation.
Unfortunately, in our society people aren't very chill with this, especially in highschool. Open your ears and try and count how many times you hear "fag" and "dyke" and any other derogatory term for homosexuals in a day in any fucking highschool in the country. Let him know that it's not a big deal, but some people aren't open minded. Be candid with him. Lend him your friendship and support- often times not being able to tell anyone or being ridiculed in the case some assholes find out could cause some serious grief. If you want to see something sad...check out the suicide rates for young homosexuals and bisexuals compared to other teens. Very, very sad numbers that never get spoken too.

Why should a gay guy go hard when fighting another guy? I mean- one, he'd have to be attracted to the other guy (are you attracted to EVERY woman?), and two- he'd have to have a complete lack of self control. Slaya... you are an ignorant asshole.

Yeah that's a tough position to be put in. Especially when it involves children in jr high. I remember Jr High it can be tough, especially to just be yourself.
First off were all human beings and therefore should be treated with equal respect. I know homosexuals especially in Jr High if they decide to "come out of the closet" arent given the respect and dignity they deserve, including by the teachers in some cases. But as far as advice, that's a tough debate. How DO YOU explain what to tell a kid whose in jr high and is gay? hmmm well to say "be yourself" is an understatement. Like one said you can be "yourself" but then have a mob against you, or you can keep it quiet and possibly do more psychological harm in the long run. ANyways tough issue, my only advice is to just listen to the kid and let him know that he's ok, just be himself and jr high and high school isn't the end, it's only the beginning. But That's easier said then done!!! |
