Fist Geoff Thompson's Fear book

Greetings everyone. This is my first post here. I'm very happy to be on board.

I've already read a couple people posting in different topics recommending that other should read Geoff Thompson's Fear book. From what I've read from Geoff's web-site this sounds like a great book. BUT it sounds like it deals w/ a lot more then just Fear of Fighting. And Fear of Fighting IS the reason I want to buy it. I've dealt w/ almost every other issue in my life and now my fear of fighting is the last thing I want to work on. Will I still get a lot out of it?

Also; has anyone here read Loren Christensen's Mental Edge? That too sounds really good.

I should point out that I think I might have a larger then average fear of fighting. My brother {who is over 10 years older then me and was a gang member} used to beat me a lot while I was growing up. He made me feel weak. Like I was a pussy and I would never EVER be able to defend myself. I'm taking Krav Maga now and I do have A LOT of confidence in my skill -- but the mental side still gets me.

In short people; I just want to feel BRAVE. I want to feel like I can stand up to any one trying to intimidate me. ANY AND ALL ADVICE IS WELCOME.

PLEASE REPLY.

Thank you all.

Valdimar:

welcome to defend.net
I think the book Fear will help you undertsand why and how fear can be controlled before a fight, because the seconds before a fight are crucial. I've read Watch my Back (also by Thompson) and there are a lot of examples, advice, descriptions on how fear and adrenalin work. So I guess "Fear" will be even better.
In a nutshell, fear is totally natural and normal. It's what you do with it that makes the difference.

You say that your brother made you feel weak...I think he should have made you strong. Maybe you don't know it yet, but you have learned what taking a beating is since a young age. Take that as a "good" experience.
I think you should talk to your krav maga instructor about the fear of fighting, he can give you good advice.

Hey Tee Sok,
Thanx so much for the reply. Really helped. And you are right. I mean damn, most people's first fights are w/ the bully at school. Mine were w/ a gang member who was bigger and stronger then me in almost every way.

I'll definately be talking to my Krav Instructor soon.

Thanx again!
