    Good question.

Overconfidence? I'm not sure...perhaps by constantly testing yourself, you'd never get overconfident?

If you do something, your results are indicative of your preparation, your strengths and weaknesses.

Weaknesses keep you humble, even if they aren't that bad. They keep you busy as well, because you work to strengthen them.

become smart enough to realize that no matter how good you think you are, there is someone better than you at any given moment.

Running into such a person at that moment usually will remove any thoughts of over confidence and may even take away the confidence altogether depending on how much better they are.

If you feel you may be over confident, seek out instruction and training with people of higher quality as they will generally be able to show you just how much you don't know.

I think to overcome overconfdence you need to train with a partner very often, with different partners of course. Not just drills but sparring. It's a good way to learn a lot about yourself physically and mentally and come to understand your capabilities.
