Here's J-Lo herself talking about Krav Maga...

and next week we have Garfield demonstrating knife fighting!

Krav Maga will be the new Tae-Bo!

Rumor has it you actually get a little girl-on- girl action. Is it true you play a lesbian and there's a lesbian kiss?

[Laughs.] Well, in the movie, I play a lesbian. But no--there was no kissing.
What a ripoff

Began to train in KM recently. I have trained in various other MA's in the past, including several years with some more modern, SD oriented styles, and despite the slick, corporate packaging, I feel there are a lot of good techniques taught. Perhaps the quality of instructors vary from school to school....
Just my $.02.

KM has a lot of good and effective self defense techniques. Its packaged to catch the eye of corporate and health club types that normally don't take SD - something that other SD systems do not cater to.

It's hard to believe you can really overcome a guy as big as Billy Campbell , but you definitely pull it off. What did you do to prepare for that scene?

"I brought the script to my trainer, and he said, "You should use this [self-defense technique] called Krav Maga. It basically levels out the playing field between men and women." It's a street-fighting thing; it's about getting out of the way and then counterattacking. You use the weight of the other person to get the upper hand[i]you can really overcome a guy as big as Billy Campbell"

That was on the thing. DON'T PEOPLE KNOW THOSE FIGHTS ARE CHOREOGRAPHED? NEXT THING WE KNOW

J. LO. beats Tito Ortiz!

Default compare

I dont know a whole lot on the concepts of krav maga, but i hear its a great self defense art, meaning its cutting edge. so if anyone can let me know how it compares to jkd, if they are similar or two ends of a stick.....just a question.

I was talking to a guy a while back who looked into Krav Maga. He said there were techniques on how to disarm a hand grenade?

I'll have to check out J-Lo's Krav Maga skills in her film. Maybe she spars with Ben Affleck in a red leather Daredevil costume!

In one of the Sunday tabloids last week, there was a bit on Lucy Liu in there. Apparently shes into Escrima. There was also a sub-section on Steve Benitez, and it was saying Silat was taking off in a big way with people and celebrities.

Yup, its the in thing alright. That Terminatrix woman trained it too to help her in the film role.

Etc etc. It used to be Kung Fu that was cool. Now its Krav Maga.

Personally I'll stick with what is effective. In my experience the "coolest" thing is rarely the best.

I'm curious to see how movie actors and actresses train up in martial arts for the fight scenes they have to do.

It just makes me sick when you watch "The making of.." featurettes on DVDs, and the actors go on about how learning the martial arts (for about a week) has changed their life and start talking about spirituality. They're all talking out of their arse.

No question it is an "in" thing. But don't detract from it because of its trendiness. It'll happen to many martial arts given enough time. just wait for "Cardio Muay Thai!" or something like that. With the right marketing, you can make many martial arts trendy, no matter how good they are. Just ask the Tai Chi guys.

But trendy becomes easy becomes ineffective.

It has already happened to Karate, TKD etc. It probably will happen to everything eventually. But, when it does, its time to find something else. Unless you want to be training under a 10 year old black belt and his grand mother.
