I've had a low opinion of John Lewis ever since his disgracefuly fight aginst Carlson Gracie Jr. in Extreme Fighting. Just watching that no-talent holding on to the fence against the tiny Gracie was sickening.
It was great watching nhb newcomer Kenny Monday open a can of whoop ass on Lewis. Monday showed what Lewis' accomplishments as a grappler really amounted to: a big zero, a goose egg. I mean Lewis was basically a kick boxer who after one year gets a black belt in bjj. What a Joke! Now, in the UFC Pulver knocks Lewis out in fifteen seconds. In interviews, Lewis is saying there should be a rematch because "he and Pulver bring out the best in each other." Lewis is better a denial than Al Gore. |

americana... he got a bb after 1 year because of his previous grappling foundation from gene labell. he's 1 of only 5 black belts from labell. so, he's not too much of a slouch. and as for his getting knocked out so quickly, EVERYBODY has a puncher's chance in a fight. btw, he fought with the same strategy against lowell anderson. smart strategy if you're fighting a guy who's ground skills you really respect. not pretty, but smart.

Martial Artist, why don't I get a response from you?
John Lewis seemed to have talent in that first fight with Carlson. He was on the ground with him and escaped. I am disappointed by the fact that he is not where I thought he would be by now. Americana, was that you doing this same post at the UG? |

That was me on the UG. The administrators there must be friends with Lewis, because the post was deleted and I havn't been able to log on to the site since.
While many disagreed with the post, some sentiment was expressed in a related post that the UG was guilty of a big double standard. Fighters like Rickson, Mark Coleman and Ken Shamrock are pilloried there every day. UG posts on Coleman and Shamrock go way beyond what I said about Lewis being a bum. I would say that posts accusing people of taking illegal steriods are actually libelous. |

They deleted as well. It's interesting that when you post that John Lewis is overrated and never beat a quality opponant(the 3 guys he beat have 0 wins in MMA) it get's deleted,. But if you rip Rickson it doesn't get deleated. There is definatly a certain group of fighters that they don't allow people to say anything negative about. Miletich is another. They say they only delete posts that are vulgar etc... but I know that my post said nothing negative about Lewis, only that other people's opinion's of his fighting ability was overstated.

I titled a thread that said "Kirik takes it up the ass". It was deleted in about two minutes but I didn't get banned! It's true, they seem to protect some fighters that guys on the forum there are friends with.
Any time a real fighter shows up to post something there, they get always get 5 million ass kissing responses saying how much "class" that fighter has. Whatever. |

While it might be nice to have a site that actual fighters post on, I'm not sure how much its worth giving up. How much do you think Mario Sperry is going to really post on the UG? I doubt very much and then it's probably going to be by his manager.
I guess Sperry now is off limits to. Although I don't think he'd have alot of people dissing him any way. Rickson could end all the bs posting about himself by making a couple of posts himself. He should think about it. |

I thought he did pretty well against Carlson Jr...
It WAS legal to hold the fence so why not? If Carlson was so good why didn't he take him down and KEEP him there earlier? Bottom line...Lewis surprised Gracie with his skills that night...I mean it was during the "Undefeatable Gracie" era..

Karl: It took him 5 years, not 1 to get his blackbelt. It's Rickson's erroneous statement of " one year after he leaves me he is a blackbelt" that popularized that incorrect information. Two years with Rickson, 3 with Andre.

Americana, how old was Kenny Monday when he fougth Lewis? You said at the UG that he was pushing 40, retired from wrestling, at that he knew little about MMA. If this is all true then that doesn't make Lewis look good.
I guess that I wouldn't be considered a "classy" guy at the UG. That's 'cause anyone that has the balls to step into the ring is just so cool. By the way, two years to go from bjj blue to black is pretty damn good, providing that you are legit. |
