![]() | I wouldn't know how to deaden the nerves, aside from possibly using ice, but that only temporatrily accomplishes the task. Honestly, I don't see why you'd WANT to deaden your nerves. Just for the sake of not feeling any pain when you kick someone, or if you block their kicks with your shin? That's not real smart, seeing you don't fight ALL THE TIME, so you would you know, need your nerves. People who have no feeling in their hands for example run the high risk of burning their hand on a stove because they wouldn't feel the pain of the heat entering their hand. They wouldn't notice anything was wrong until their skin starts melting off. - Do you really want to subject your shins, and possibly entire leg(s) to that same effect? You could have your shin snapped like a twig, and you'd still be trying to kick out at people, or hell, if your whole leg went numb from deadened nerves, you probably wouldn't be able to walk. |

![]() | ?! not being able to walk from deaden the nerves in the shin area?! i have seen experts i martial arts "rubbing" a bottle or a wooden stick on their shins in order to deaden their nerves...they say it works...and i dont think they would do it if there was a risk of an injury... if they couldnt walk then they couldnt fight... |

![]() | I'm not going to argue with you, Panagiotis. You can choose to believe whatever you like. However, I will leave you with a few words just so you can contemplate over them. Alot of things people choose to do are unsafe, yet they still do it. Haven't you ever taken any type of basic science course in school? The nerves control data in the body. If some nerves become damaged, you could face a number of things ranging from numbness in a limb, to complete paralysis. The brain may send neural impulses out to control how your body does things, but without the nerves to assist in that job, you'd be screwed. You'd be a construction foreman without a crew. Would you really want to risk that? |

| Registered User | Yes, you can get "shin" cancer. It is the number one cancer in Thailand, home of Muay Thai. As far as "conditioning" your shins, if you are just starting out, kicking the heavy bag every day will certainly lessen your sensitivity in that area over time. If you are looking to seriously "deaden" the area though, taking a stick or peice of bamboo and rolling it up and down the shin is a known and practiced method. -S
