Besides, isn't BJJ ALREADY a form of structured learning? I thought that was one of the advantages it had over other martial arts? Maybe I'm wrong.

It's just a money making scheme. Like those guys who advertise on cable late at night about how to make 500 grand a year working from home or how to learn to play the guitar in 6 months.
BJJ is fine. Anyone who gets an advanced belt from a home study course will get humbled as soon as they show up to a school or tournament. Imagine walking into the school of someone like Renzo Gracie wearing a purple and not being able to even perform as well as the whites. You'd get demoted right away. These kinds of things do not affect bjj. |

yeah, BJJ has the gift of being able to train at near full speed (technical BJJ, not vale tudo or whatever). So even if someone claims to have whatever belt, if they walk into Renzo's school or Ricksons or Pedro's, they'd have to stand up against the other belts there, so it wouldn't really matter.

I guess my thought is just that these people will teach and steal other people money. He says 3yrs for a BB and a little more that a year for purple. And of course that's just BJJ you can also get a side order of Judo and Sambo BBs at this McDojo. Its the quality control issue I am thinking about....similar to TKD. I know this is one example but it is really sad.

its not a home tutoring course or anything like that, lloyd actually says that you will not get anywhere unless you train under a qualified instructor, its just some tips to help you overcome problems in your game that could help you save a few years of useless trainning.
one of his students (mike fowler) has achieved purple belt after only 2 and a half years and is doing really well in big name touraments, he actually wins everything, but i suspect he is naturally gifted or had some previous grappling expirience. i have registered, and at the moment i get a couple of emails a week concentrating on mental aspects mostly. i am not saying the blueprint will work, or does, but i'm curious and i'm willing to hear the man out, while its for free anyway

Well I take back what I said. When I hear anyone saying "YOU CAN IN HALF THE TIME" I shut down. I sent an email also to see how much crap this was, but I will take your word for it.

Actually Lloyd Irvin is very respected in the BJJ world. His grappling blue print is not a "get a black belt" program. It is advice, motivation, and ofcourse advertisement for his upcoming video. He does not issue you a black belt, his product is to help you get better at BJJ with your current instructor. That may lead you to a black belt faster. Lloyd recieved his black belt in 3 1/2 years I believe, he also hold rank in Judo/sambo and has competed, and won, nationally. Read his bio on his site.
You can check out his site at www.lloydirvin.com If you view the news part on his site, you can see that his team is actually good. And you can see Lloyd fight at www.onthemat.com/video-archive-new.html See "Lloyd Irvin at Mundial 2001 (Black Belt)" I know his "video" is in the makes, and I don't plan on buying it. Ofcourse it is a money making product, and we will see the reviews when it is released. If your going to bash something, do your research and find out all aspects of it, otherwise you just sound like a dipshi+. |

My point was not to flame, but like I said it would be said if BJJ started to go down that path of paying for belts.Regardless, I still thank you for the information.

Second, IPON asked folks on the forum to verify this information and provide an opinion. Again, let's go to the tape: Quote:
