Uh... I train in korea and the korean Judoka don't think there is a difference of "1% of the technicalities" between the two styles. First of all you need to make some thinkgs clear for us. What kind of judo do you do? Olympic judo or Kokodan Judo? Say you do Kokodan Judo, your argument is flawed because of the world judo popluation, Kokodan is a very small minority.

You guys think it is worthless, therefore I have to assume the training you have done in judo is of a low standard.
I don't think it is worthless. I do think that if you are going to do mma there are other styles such as BJJ, Lucha libre, and submission wrestling that will help you more than Judo. And no the Judo in korea is not of "low standard". If you are a judoka you should be the first one to know that.

There is no bjj vs judo marketing here in Europe and I find it strange that people like to draw a line between two things that are essentially the same.
If you call BJJ Judo then you should call Judo Jiu-Jitsu. Why do you draw a line between Jiu-jitsu and Judo? Where did Judo come from? You can't have it both ways.

Well, judo is one of the sport styles but it does have a good amount of ground fighting. It does have more than enough to get you through a defense/fighting situation. Remember that there is more than one style out there that does teach ground fighting. That's why I officially study 2 styles and one style unoficially. Learn as much as you can. To answer your question, yes Judo does have fighting techniques to get you through a situation.
    Keep fighting until the end!

You guys think it is worthless,
Nobody, I repeat, NOBODY says Judo is worthless on this forum. We've had this discussion many times before. Mr. Poopy, myself and several others speak highly of Judo. BJJ came from Judo. Judo came from Japanese Jiu-Jitsu. They are all different flavors of the same ice cream.

The question was: Is Judo groundfighting enough.

The answers have been: Yes it is good, but not as good as BJJ, who almost exclusively train on the ground. I find it hard to believe you're a Nidan in Judo. No Judoka Yudansha I've had the pleasure to train with get's into pissing contests like this.

If someone asked: Is BJJ groundfigthing enough? I would still answer no, there is always room to improve, always more to train.

What I do consider worthless is your ablilty to debate. You keep making stuff up and attributing it to forum members.

Get with the program or get lost.

Most of the replies have hinted towards this conclusion, without saying it out loud. Most of you have only a little good judo experience. Its annoying to be lectured on the supposed differences between bjj and judo by people who are not at a high level in both arts. That is my only problem with this thread. I disagreed because my experience has been different.

However, I train with ex international judo players, so certainly the judo I see is different from the judo in your regular US dojo. I guarantee that there are plenty of judoka who can compete on the ground with bjj guys, especially here in Europe where bjj is still small and judo is massive. It is worth pointing out though that not all judoka are good on the ground, its a matter of specialism because there is a lot in judo.

Jules, I agree Korea is a decent judo nation, I hope you train at a good club and enjoy your judo.

This is another reason why your arguments are flawed. Your experience is not of a "normal judoka" in Europe because most normal judokas don't get to train with international judo players. Also if you train with international players why would you even mention the "regular US dojo"? Your argument is flawed.

I knew Spanky would bring in the subject of ice cream somehow. Kind of gives you hints of his state of mind........

Kid Chocolate - you hinted that we wuld all know your name. Maybe its my lack of knowledge, but I don't even recognise the name of your school. Are you famous or do you just ahve an enlarged opinon of yourself?
