Question MMA and contact lenses

Here is a cut-paste from the K-1 official rule book

Article 2
Each fighter shall wear regulation gloves provided by the promoter, a protective cup and a mouthpiece.Contact lenses are also prohibited. . Gloves sizes for each weight class are as follows...

Why are contact lenses prohibited? Are they prohibited too in Pride ans UFC?

Default Eye Injury

Neither Pride's nor UFC's posted rules address contact lenses. K-1's prohibition is probably intended to protect the fighter's eyes.

A sparring partner of mine always removed his lenses before any session we had. I think it's a bad idea to wear them while sparring or any similar training. So it's best to take them off.

hard contacts can cause a lot of trauma to the eye if struck. Also there is a problem with contacts and unconciousness. I do not know the specifics of it but I do now that it is important to get the out if someone is knocked out.
It may come from that.

That's what i was thinking. I can understand that hard contact lenses can cause a problem but soft ones (like mines) wouldn't be a safety issue i think.

How many here actually have to wear glasses? I do but my perscription isnt too bad so I can see fairly well without them. At least well enough to be in a fight.

I wear glasses when I fight/grapple, is it really a bad thing? If they hit your eye will the contact go up your ey, never to befound again?

the main problems with contacts in corneal abrasions, lack of oxygen to the eye, and fragmentation into the eye.

I had to wear contacts but I got lasik a year ago
