Hi all,
I'm practically new here and to the MA's world and I'm interested in BJJ. I'm going to visit two schools which are close to my home and I would like to know what to look for, or what to expect from a GOOD BJJ school? Any help will be appreciated. Thanx ![]() |

My first instructor wanted me to observe the sparring the first few classes, and just learn some basic tech's. My second threw us right into the sparring after we did tech's. Take some water, mouth piece, and groin protection. Pay attention and take notes when you get home.

These folks make a good point, the instructor should be rolling as well. I also recommend paying attention to how the instructor treats the different ranks in the class(and I don't mean does he speak politely and take your feelings into consideration, if you're looking for that, watch Dr. Phil).
If you see the guy trying to destroy his students as quick as possible, he's probably an asshole that you don't want to train with. The better instructors I've seen grapple to the level of their students, meaning they push their students, but don't try to destroy their confidence. |

Thanx for all the info!
I visited one of the 2 schools which are near my home and I was really impressed!!! First they started strechting, then they did some running, then they practiced their breakfalls, then they started to do some exercises, then some a couple of drills, then a technique and finally the sparring. It was so different to the other schools(other MA's) I had visited maybe because it was fun to watch and because these guys were training HARD! it looked like they were giving a 110% it made you wanted to train too! I also liked the fact that it's 5 days a week and a 2 hour class P.S. how does that curriculum sounds? |
