Default Bob Sapp v. Akebono

This fight was on TV in every bar in Japan! Did anyone else see it? I was en route to the Scottish bar in Hiroo, so I missed the Pride tournament, but I managed to catch most of the K1 action.

Sapp was looking a little more lean than usual, while Akebono seemed to be panting from the effort of climbing into the ring. It`s hard to find a fighter that makes Sapp look good, but the K1 promoters did a good job with Akebono. Akebono seemed unable to do much more than clinch and throw some ineffective knees. Sapp landed too many unanswered punches to Akebono`s head, and after a couple of knock-downs the ref stopped the fight.

Tyson would have eaten Sapp alive.

Happy New year

aseepish

(Being the genius that I am, I first posted this to the Boxing thread by mistake. Sorry for the duplicate post)

I didn't see the fight, but I agree about the Tyson kicking his a$$. I saw his K1 fights with Kimo and Remy Bonjowski and he didn't look very impressive in either fight. Kimo caught him with some pretty good shots and was able to knock him down once before ultimately losing, and if Sapp didn't get the DQ(on purpose I believe) against Bonjowski, I thinkg he would have lost the fight anyway.

Both those guys are good, but he won't last 90 seconds with Tyson.

The fight was one that was hyped even though it was a fight between 2 fighters who both aren't MMA fighters at all

After being downed Akenono hard a hard time getting up, not because of the punch but because of his lard ass, if this was a sumotori, it was one that hasn't been training sumo for a long time
Akebono is in facdt a fat hawaiian that started doing sumo at a later age not like the japanese, who start is at an early age, with very rigorous training

I don't think they will find a real sumotori prepared to soil his reputation by entering a MMA match because in Japan Sumo is something sacret or holy
Pitty though, I think a real well trained sumotori would make Sapp look like what he is, crap
The slaps they give eachother can have the same impact as boxing strikes

Excuse me? Akebono was Yokozuna. You don't get much more 'real' than that!

when was that? seeing his condition it must have been some time ago
Also, sumo matches don't take that long, he could compete in those having this condition, my point is that Japanese yokozuna, are trained from an early age and have a far better physical condition

I do not think the hawaiians coonsider it as holy/sacret as the japanese sumotori do, it's just a feeling I have

He retired in 2001 with a pretty darn successful record. And he was trained in Japan.

Sumo wrestling usually don't last more than one minute. You either get pushed out of the ring or you get thrown down.

I am not surprised that he can't seem to get up, since the first one to fall down loses the match, and you don't need to get up in a hurry.
