vale tudo

I have recently started going to Vale Tudo classes, i just want to know what should i be watching out for in the classes? how to tell if the instructor is good? things along those lines.


Ps the sensi (sp?) that taught the vale tudo instructor describes himself as a "black belt in vale tudo", is this even possible?

i kind of interested in vale tudo my self since i will be attending one in valencia spain. i believe its like bjj but you can punch people. not really sure thought. thats for you to decide whether you like the instructor or not

Another answer from an inexperienced source, me, Vale Tudo is BJJ without the gi and all the strikes. Or close to resemblance.

so vale tudo is basially ju-jitsu then?..oh i was interested......but im not a fan of ju-jitsu....no offence that's just the way i am

Vale Tudo is a combination of muay thai and brazilian jj. It gives BJJ fighters a chance to work on their stand up and muay thai fighters the chance to roll.

Sounds to me like a very effective hybrid as far as MMA goes. Is it highly accepted in their respective originating countries? (Brazil and Thailand?)

Vale Tudo means "anything goes". Unlike BJJ where you start from the kneeling position, Vale Tudo starts from the stand up and includes strikes.

Vale Tudo is Portugese meaning "anything goes" (someone already said that). It isn't a system, just a term for MMA in Brazil. Basically, it is Jiu-Jitsu submissions, wrestling takedowns, western boxing, or thai boxing, any sort of combination you want. I don;'t believe there are belts since it isn't really a style, but he could be a Black Belt in BJJ. As far as telling if the instructor is good, ask him what tournaments and such he has competed in, or where he got his black belt from. You can buy them for about 10 bucks in catalogs, or you can earn them from a respectable teacher.

vale tudo is the closest thing you will get to real street fighting, so if that is what you are looking for , go for it

Ok guys, some of you got it right and some are way off.

Yes vale tudo means that it is "anything goes" or no rules. When the Gracie first started promoting their form of JJ, instead of having a list of rules, they simply said "vale tudo." This attacted some of Brazils best fighters, which to people curious about this Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu were amazed at how effective it was. This only promoted their art and fighting skills. One of the Gracie's first ad's in the paper said something simular to "If you want your ass kicked or bones broken come to ..."

Vale Tudo is not a style, only a term used in Brazil. Whoever has a black belt in vale tudo is obviously a crook.
