SweepEm will become famous soon enough
Cool

I thought that I would post a thread about tournaments and competitions.

My questions is:
How many of you have competed in a BJJ, MMMA, NHB type of tournaments?

How many of you train but have never competed? If you have not competed, do you plan to compete?

With all my injuries, I haven't competed this year, but hopefully, one of my New Year's goal is to compete in a BJJ tournament.

I have competed BJJ before. I got a medal at one of Allen Wrenches tournaments as a newbie white belt.

Maybe I make my return at Copa Pacifica. I was gonna save myself for the MASTER's division in 2002 tho...

Talking competing kicks a$$

Personally, i hate grappling tournaments. Whenever I might compete I prefer something either more striking related, or freestyle. Right now the main thing I'm preparing myself for is amateur Shooto competition, which is full contact and more or less MMA style. I haven't had my debut fight yet...but soon. I really love this style of competition. the short rounds make for very intense matches and you get no points for stalling in position. I'd also like to compete in Chinese style San Shou (also full contact...rules resemble modified Muay thai with throws and slams). If and when my muay thai gets a lot better i'd consider competing in muay thai as well. I competed in Chinese style awhile ago back when i was still doing Gung fu, but since then i haven't competed cuz i really haven't had the time. I was training to enter a Shooto event that happened about a month ago, but I fukked up my ankle while grappling and made matters worse by continuing to train on it.

Cool

Boxed (amatuer) in the late 80's, early 90's. Wanted many times to turn professional but never did.

Entered and won gold medal in a pankration tourney this past summer, in the gi, under two year divison.

Entered my first BJJ tourney about a month ago - lost by superiority.

Want soon to enter submission grappling tournaments, but first have to wait for a shoulder / neck injury to heal.

Ronnie.

Competition is really important to me.

I find that I perform my absolute WORST in competition of any sort and I can only figure that experience will cure me of that problem.

Another reason I want to compete is that I think that you owe it to the team you're on to get out there and mix it up if you can. I love the team feeling of the entire school preparing for a competition.

Default To be gut honest about it...

I would compete more often if I knew I could make it to work the next day. When you're the only source of income for a family of four...it's weird how "safe minded" you become. That's my crutch. Once I'm confident that my being able to work (commission only) isn't at risk, I'm all about it. Sadly enough, it directly affects how far you're willing to take your training, as well.

Peace
