![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I am thirty-three and have been doing BJJ for about four years... The soreness is related to a couple things - mainly that we use A LOT of unusual muscles in grappling that don't normally get much stress. I would expect to be sore for a while untill your grip strengthens, your back loosens up, and your thighs (abductors and hamstrings especially) get used to pulling in funny directions. The other thing worth pointing out is that a lot of little injuries you get in this first month or so will become less common later on. I used to get my fingers and toes jammed almost weekly, but it just doesn't happen much anymore. I think this is because as a beginner, you tend to overuse your muscles and stress your body unnesecarily (heck, I never could spell that word). As you improve, you will get less jolting and straining. Good luck and hope it works out

![]() | Thanks for the advice. My inner quads were sore for about a week, but now fine. I jammed a toe really badly. My grip is very strong and I believe that lead to my hurt fingers since I was like a pit bull and wouldn't release trying to choke out this blue belt... too much strength not enough technique, but at least I choke out other beginners easily. I am working on the ego thing |
