Default Relson Gracie affiliates

There is a Relson Gracie affiliate near me www.fightworks.net and I was wondering if anyone trains at a Relson affiliate and could give me information on Relsons schools. Here are a few questions.
1. Do Relson affiliate schools train in the vale tudo portion of bjj? If they do then do they train standup strikes as a part of it?
2. Do Relson affiliates schools train weapon defense?
3. How much emphasis on throws and takedowns in Relsons schools curriculum?
Any help or any other info on Relson affiliate would be greatly appreciated.

Dude what is the rush? and what other schools are you considering?

I checked the site and no instructors are listed

I will try to answer your questions but it is only from what I have read on the board...check BJJ limitations thread

1. I think most (if not all) Machado and Gracie schools train sport and Vale Tudo, but with only 3 classess offered a week it is unlikely

2. Yes I have read the SD techniques from GJJ fairly standard JJ

3. Genrally there is more emphasis on TD than throws (though they are taught)

My suggestion would be to just call or stop by the school and ask these questions.

why don't you call Relson? 808-589-2524. When you go into a Relson association you are asked about your goals, then your goals are met. We focus on self-defense & sport gi & no gi training. (including weapons it you ask, or become advanced). If you walk through the doors & train you will have all your questions answered. If not call Relson, but I would sugest that anyway, even if Relson is not avalible the people that answer the phone can help you. Relson Gracie's teachings are not typical Jiu-Jitsu.

here's one thing i've learned about associations. whether it's a gracie or machado association, the instructor is the person who sets the curriculum. i've been to gracie and machado association schools. in general you'll only ever see a gracie or a machado 3-4 times a year unless it's THIER school. dont let the name of the academy sway you, drop on by to all the schools in your area and feel for yourself what school is best.
i train under an association and there is another one closer to me than the one i train under. The closer is 5 miles away, the one i train under is 20 miles away. the closer one is cheaper but by comparison, the further more expensive place has a better curriculum, more classes and the instructor has superior skills.
honestly i say screw the name, check out the school for yourself.

Relson comes to my school about 6 times a year, when he's not in town he's sending this guy www.DanielMoraes.com - this years light weight Jiu-Jitsu World Champ. Any time I ask Relson to come to town he will. He doesn't have a problem with me not bringing people to town, but I do want people to come to train with me.

"drop on by to all the schools in your area and feel for yourself what school is best." - I couldn't agree more. You have to find the right learning environment for you, it's not the same for everyone.

The association you are looking at is Scott Divine's association. He is the first person I ever trained a private lesson of Jiu-Jitsu with. He was my Instructor for several months. He has helped me with moves at competitions and is a great person. He teaches the secret service. I would think if it's good enough for them it's gonna be good enough for your goals. He is one of very few Black Belts under Relson. I really think you should take advantage.
