Submission wrestling match. In a ring. Lots of spectators. The match started. About 30 seconds later I awoke lying flat on my back in the middle of the ring looking up at the lights wondering where I was. Later found out I got caught in a triangle choke. Captured forever on film. I hear it is on the intro to one of the SBG video series.

Having Richard Dimitri use my long hair to smash my head in the ground. This was both humbling and painful cuz my hair was part of who I was, a sign of my people, and I hated to cut it off. This, what other would consider, small act, later saved my life, and if it wasnt for Rich, Id be in a world of hurt or dead. Thanks me amigo.
Cropping my ears was kinda painful too, but not nearly as painful as my hair. -C-

Well, I got stomped by a 98 cm midget during a point sparring tournament. I figured that a guy like myself whose 160 cm and 48 kilos could finally put the smack down on someone. So I used all that courage that I've saved from bossing people around the office and tried to score with the biggest haymaker you've ever seen. I mean big haymaker.....why the laughing????haymaker is a real karate technique?? So I throw the haymaker about 20 cm over the head of the midget, which misses ofcourse and he rams his head into me jewels. Down I go, the only KO in a light contact point sparring tournament........ By the way April fools

Some good honest helpings of humble pie!
We all have them ususally buried and hidden somewhere in the backs of our minds, and usually and convieniently forgotten! I always remember when i used to attend kung fu classes and was sparring with the instructor and was easily getting the better of him when all of a sudden, my "Genitalia" recieved a hard blow. (and no, geni-talia is not a reference to my wife's name)! Anyhow we immediately changed partners and I was put with a tiny indian girl who had only recently started and was to be honest "not cut out for it". But alas she closed her eyes and swung her leg out and connected again with my "genitalia" !!! Now perhaps it was a good kick, and her act was all a ruse, as she was really a grandmaster ninja assin who was sworn to secrecy and had to be incognito? Or she got lucky? Or.....(and my favouite theory)....is that.... my appendage is obviously so large that it is a huge and easy target!!! Well it was certainly large(swollen that is), as I lay on the ground with the whole class looking at me writhe around as this little innocent sweet girl stood over me in triumph! And to cap it all there were visitors filming it! So my swollen apendage could be at a cinema near you soon, check press for details! |

good question.
spending many years grappling in Judo, Ju Jutsu, etc then going to my Ba gua teacher for the first time and being owned like i was a child! Bearing in mind i was quite successful in Judo, and had sparred with most popular MA styles - holding my own n generally winnin - had real life experience in the form of some years on the doors etc I had 14 years experience at that point. N it might as well have been none! Came back from a weekend retreat with bruises all over me, sore joints, and a mind full of questions along the lines of 'how the hell did he do that?' etc kinda opened my eyes from a bunch of perspectives regarding real martial arts and higher levels of practice. It changed the direction of my martial arts and my spiritual practice. there ya go!
