What do you guys make of this position? I heard that some purple belts and above actually prefer this position to the guard because they find more possibilities. I always end up getting flattened out or pull my opponent back into guard. I can find no offense from there at all. What am I missing?

Thanks pornstar for your very helpful response. I hadn't thought of asking my instructor. Maybie you should charge for your most helpful advice.
PS If you don't have anything helpful to say maybie you should refrain from saying anything at all. |

hehehehe, gotcha. ok you win. it all depends on your game, if like closed guard game then going from half to full is good. sometimes it's difficult, so you have to play 1/2 guard game. always drive to get off the flat of your back, such as sit up and post on your near elbow and bring your legs in without losing his trapped leg. your far arm reaches under and around his waist DEEP and grab his belt, head down. you are more or less balled up now. from here ther are a ton of reverses. for now, work on two objectives
1. reverse, just grip his pants of his free leg at the knee with your posting elbow hand and pull it into your belly. release one of your legs, the far one, and post on the mat ready to push, leave your other leg wrapped over his. simply push him over for the reverse. 2. escape, go from elbow post to your hand, escape your hips away and as he free's his leg come to your knees. now you are both on your knees key point here is to get off your back and and assume this belt grip/elbow post posture. how's that? all better! |

Porn,
Worked your pass yesterday alot in class. Worked well. I discovered that in the half guard you gotta keep from getting cross faced. Best to burry your head in your opponents chest and stay balled up. Easy to sweep from there. |

hell yeah, they don't like you balled up under them, it's uncomfortable, they know they are about to get rolled so the crossface you to the mat, rightfully so.i'll tell ya how to become a terror from here, drill the posture instead of drilling the reverses. remember the posture?sit up to hand or elbow, legs in and over his, super deep belt grip, your right head to chest. once you get this position try to hold it for at least 30 seconds with your partner going at it. if you lose it get back to posture and start the clock over. this is the most overlooked element in this 1/2 guard game, drilling posture. try this for a few weeks, then when you pull half guard go right into reverse with no waiting and it'll flow. the reverse i showed ya is the first of a four reverse sequence to his counters that ends up in a knee bar! cool. i like this reverse because it drills the posture while learning the reverse.
