Hi I have been searching my area for martial arts classes because i really want to get into it. I have found a brazilian jujitsu class in my area (Austin Texas) and was wondering any advice you guys could give me..... I'm totally open to any suggestions to what style preference or anything like that. Again I am totally new so I guess I am really asking what is the best way to get into it. Thanks.

Yes. If you're into more traditional styles, I'd recommend Tukong Musool. There's 1 school in Austin and they train realistically, but with an emphasis on traditional values and ceremonies.

I could swear that solis is in houston. if you're looking for BJJ, try www.austinbjj.com William Vandry, a Carlos Machado black belt.

Hello Forum Members...
I just wanted to throw out there that I am living here in Austin and train with a Jun Fan Gung Fu, hapkido and Kung Fu black belt stylist here with his local JKD training Group. This is a free Training oppurtunity with an area Jeet Kune Do group and the group is self sufficent, No Contracts or B.S. If you would care to train for free and fun here in Austin Texas, just feel free to email me for directions, times of class, and any other questions you might have concerning the training. It is not BJJ but it does have a lot of good ground defenses and is purely a self defense and multiple attackers instruction in my book. My email is robster512@yahoo.com |

BJJ all they way, you test your skills every class against every size guy of every skill level. No other martial art gives that kinda training on a daily basis. Go try them all and you'll see. I trained in Jeet Kune Do which switched to "the chuck norris system" not kidding. and it was a joke, we's stand at times at practice front kicks over plastic picnic chairs. I got me yellow belt after memorizing the "geicho hung eil bo sam gup" or some thing where you kick and punch and turn and then punch and kick and yell. it was such a joke |
