Default Grappling in NYC

Hello, I am new to the forum, I was wondering does anyone know any good grappling schools in NYC that are not Brazilian jujitsu. The Brazilian jujitsu is just way too expensive for me to pay. The avg. cost here in NYC is around 200 month, I am already training Thai-boxing here in Brooklyn paying 100 month for that already. I just want to find a good submission grappling program in NYC, but I don't seem to see anything.

Don't go to NYC Machado JJ.

Carmine Zocchi (Marcelo Melo Brown Belt) is teaching at Mixed Martial Arts of Woodhaven in Queens if your interested. 100.00 a month 3x a week he teaches with open mat and such. You should check the place out. I don't know the exact addy or phone # but if you shoot me an e-mail at GrdStorm11@aol.com I'll get it for you. My friend trains at that school, it is very small and their BJJ program is just getting started however the guys train real hard.

Danny Suarez (brown belt) also teaches out of Combined Martial Arts in Steinway. I took one of his classes, great instructor, good atmosphere, plenty of sparring partners.

I *think* Rob Gutierrez (Brown belt under Renzo and Sean Alvarez) teaches in Fresh Meadows, Queens at Progressive Martial Arts. I've heard he's an awesome brown belt and also teaches at Ground Control (Sean Alvarez's school) in the Bronx.

Its a shame you can't afford Renzo's, its the best.

what's up, this is thaiking. Thanks for he reply. I train Muay Thai here in Brooklyn and want some ground work. I looked at Renzo, I know he Is awesome but he is way too expensive, I am already paying 100 month to train Thai boxing. Could you get the address, number to Carmine Zocchi, is he at least a good instructor. I been to Combined martial Arts, they are alright but the owner's crazy to ask 200 month to train with a brown belt and 250 for MMA, so I was like f**k you, know what I mean.

Just curious, what do you see as the problem with the Machado school?

Poor instruction. Spend a month at Renzos and spend a month at Machados and see the difference (if you could).

Not dissing Machado JJ at all, just that NYC Machado JJ isn't quiet up to Rigan's standards whatsoever

Stephen Koepfer, president of the American Sambo Association, runs his combat sambo classes out of our midtown location. That is in addition to NYKK's grappling program which is a combo of Shuai Jiao, Jujitsu, Judo, Shoot and Sambo... There are two "David's" associated with NYKK's program. But as of right now, David Ross, head instructor of NYKK midtown, is the person running the NYKK grappling program.

It is no gi and more MMA based. Considering you can do both grappling and the San Da program for $120/month it is a good deal indeed
