I always go through a strange cycle of moods on training days, and I'm wondering if I'm the only one? It goes something like this:

MORNING AND AFTERNOON: Can't wait to train tonight. I'm psyched up and ready to go. Time passess too slowly.

ONE HOUR BEFORE TRAINING: I have serious second thoughts. I'm tired, lethargic. I'm injured. The drive is too far. I don't feel like training at all. I can hardly remember what the purpose of it all is. Was BJJ ever really fun?

But I force myself to go anyway.

DURING TRAINING: Feeling better. Try to stay focused and absorb everything. Having fun.

IMMEDIATELY AFTER ROLLING: Adrenaline still pumping. Quite focused as I mentally go over what I did right or wrong, and what I need to work on next time.

15-20 MINUTES AFTER ROLLING: I enter some kind of state where everything just seems wonderful. Not just BJJ but everything. It's a warm, mellow, incredible sense of well-being that lasts maybe half and hour. Maybe this is some kind of endorphin spike? I have done lots of other sports, including running, and never got this kind of high.

Anyway, are there others who go through all this, and if so, what do you do to get through the "ONE HOUR BEFORE TRAINING" phase?

Sir,

You just described my first three years of training.

I agree that for me, the hardest part was convincing myself to go to class. After that, everything else took care of itself.

I've been training BJJ for about a year. I guess these spikes might even out with time. We'll see.

Feel exactly the same way, Shrimp, to a tee. I thought it was just me.
