A lot of the fight was on their feet with both guys attempting take-downs (unsuccessfully) when Monsen ended up in the guard with no exchange of points. It was a 15 minute fight with the last 12 minutes or so being uneventful. Robinson was having a lot of trouble passing guard and both guys seemed very tired. With about 10 seconds remaining on the clock Robinson shot a knee through Monsen's guard in an attempt to pass before the clock ran out. As he did Monsen got to his side and attacked Robinson's leg and drove him over with his shoulder. As the reversal took place the referee signaled 2 points and the buzzer sounded no more than 2 seconds later. Robinson was upset with the call and pushed Monsen after the match but cooler heads prevailed and they shook hands. All in all the 8 man submission divisions were all that they had been hyped up to be. However the tournament portion lacked in upper level competitors and organization.
