I am startiing up in March, I am currently taking Olympic TKD and Im waiting for my membership to expire before I start up in MMA. Im in Mississauga man. There are two places to train around here. You can take JKD, grappling and Muay Thai at Premier Fitness at M.A.F.A. or at K.A.T.A. which has a VERY good BJJ instructor and Muay thai with Savate and wrestling along with NHB. Im going to KATA. Its at Gold's gym in Miss.

Yella,
A good friend of mine teaches boxing at premier in Mississauga, I should check it out. He told me there is a guy who trains kickboxing there who has fought in some Extreme fighting event. Apparently he is looking for grapplers to train with. I heard the grappling instruction is sub-par there though... Who's the instructor at Gold's gym?

oh really? Cause Premier Fitness is my second choice but now it doesnt sound too shabby! KATA is more into NHB and grappling. Claude something is the BJJ instructor's name and is VERY HIGHLY regarded in the GTA.
And they teach Muay Thai in Premier dont they? Not kickboxing... [Edited by YeLLa-TiGeR on 12-13-2000 at 04:17 PM]

As far as I can remember he teaches boxing @ premier.
I haven't spoke to him lately though. He used to move around to different locations alot to build his name, but not sure where he is now. I am trying to reach him, so if I do I will find out what's going on, and email you with his name and a contact # if you want. Not 100% sure what the kickboxer guy trains in, if it is in fact Muai tai, will find out about that too if you are interested. I know my buddy contacted me months ago about sparring with this guy, but nothing came of it. Just a note as well. You mentioned you are involved in TKD. I trained TKD with him years ago but didn't obtain blackbelt. He did though, and also has extensive kickboxing and Jeet Kune Do training as well as boxing. I believe he is a certified boxing coach now. He is very good, and has given me great tips and techniques.

Of course, my school is going downhill fast...Im still going to miss my old friends and people there, but its worth the sacrifice for Muay Thai, boxing, wrestling, BJJ and NHB dont you think?
The begining of March is my last big tournament. Then Im out of there!

Yella:
Sounds like your heart isn't in TKD anymore, just like mine isn't in karate. Progress is good. Try some new things. You can always come back to TKD if you wish, and share what you've learned with your friends...if they're cool enough. ![]() Good luck. |

Ronin, your right, my heart isnt it anymore. I been fighting it for months, but now I realize its time to move on to other things, to grow I think you must experience other things in order for you to become a better person. I've made close friends, have been exposed to the good and bad. I just feel its my time to move on. I've given 6 years of undying dedication and have paid in blood and sweat. Those people there are family and it hurts to even think about leaving, but I have to. I've done some serious research and made serious inquires. I've observed the people in this forum, asked questions here and on the UG. Went to countless websites and talked to virtually all the people in the G.T.A. who teach or take MMA or grappling here in Toronto. I've even researched different MAs to see what fits my profile best. I saw the best and the worst of the competitions and I have to say, MMA is the way for me.
March is still some time away anyhow! Anywayz, I gotta get back to studying! Thanks for your concern
