    Brazilian jiu-jitsu's rubber guard

Can anyone elaborate on what the rubber guard is? Is it a quality or specific skill-set used within the guard?

I suspect you're talking about the open guard - that is, getting your oponent between your legs and not letting them out.

It's a set of skills - from attacks from guard (obviously, you have to uncross your ankles to get your hips out to do an attack like an armbar, triangle, etc), as well as the skills involved in having your legs uncrossed without having your guard passed. It also includes the "butterfly" guard, which is where your feet are tucked inside your opponent's legs and your hands control their arms...

Yes..the rubber guard is Eddie Bravo's little gem. It's actually more of a closed guard than open..it got its name because Eddie is so damn flexible he started being able to move his legs in abnormal ways that most people don't think of.

Alot of it kinda looks like Yoga, he likes to get his legs climbed WAY up the back and then he'll start holding his arms UNDER his own legs and set up submissions this way.
It's pretty cool actually if you can do it!
