Default Finally got my website done..

It has a lot of pics and stuff and seems to work great on a high speed connection...but on dial up I've had some trouble with it.

I would sure welcome any feedback as to how it looks and how its working.

www.milehimachado.com

Thanks guys,
Matt.

Good start!

Suggestions:
  1. Stop using front-page, or MSWord for your editor. Whatever you're using produces a ton of XML code which makes me think its MSWord, which produces extra code when you "Save as HTML" because it is worried about re-opening the file as a MSWord object. The extra code does nothing for your site but slow it down. If you can get rid of it then you should.
  2. Use something like Macromedia's Fireworks to compress your images. The few pics that I checked have a resolution of 96DPI. Web browsers, and I mean all of them, can only display at 72DPI. It might not sound like much, but I took the pic of you on your instructors page and the only thing I changed was the DPI. that image went from 67K to 17K. It might not sound like much but that extra 50K of memory for the exact same picture will drag the site's load speed down like a cheetah at a convention of parapalegic antelope would drag down a good time.

I have a 100MG connection here at work and the pictures still lagged. It might take a little extra work but it will be worth it for you.

Seriously though, its a really good start.

Hermosa, I like the site but would like to add the following to DJColdfusions comments above.
Web design is something I have done a fair bit of from time to time and would like to add to dj's suggestion of Macromedia fireworks (which is a great product btw), to use Macromedia Dreamweaver, imo its by far the best of the wysiwyg editors. There are hundreds of extensions you can get, one of which is "clean up ms office html" which really does that very well, I looked at your source code and you have used MS Office (probably word) to convert text into html, this is a very messy way to do it and will slow down any site.

On a seperate issue, i know a very experienced Sensei in Aurora Colorado called Brett Denison, do you know him??, he runs a Japanese Jujutsu dojo there and he teaches many law enforcement folks, I think his dojo is called Mijukan.

I forgot to say that you should change the title of your page from "Employee List" to "Mile High Jiu-Jitsu."

The "Employee List" code shows up in two places when someone views your page.
  1. At the top of your browser window in the "blue" bar. It says "Employee List - Mocrosoft Internet Explorer" you can't change the "Microsoft Internet Explorer" but you can change the rest.
  2. It also shows up on your windows taskbar in the Internet Explorer button as the title of the page.

Open up the html file that has your page and do a search for the title for the page appears between the opening title tag <title> and the closing title tag .

You can use notepad in the accessories folder of your computer (press start, then "all programs", then "accessories", then "notepad" to open the editor. Open up the file in question using Notepad and then:
  • Click on the edit text button (it just says "Edit") at the top of the Notepad window
  • Click the "Find" option in the dropdown window
  • A small window will pop-up, enter "

I apologize if I over-explained that process; however, I'm not sure how much control Word gives you over the Title of a web-document (I'm a coder only kind of guy) and I know from looking at your code that it won't be easy finding the title block by just scanning through the file.

Again, great start!

Direct connect to the backbone baby!

If they didn't filter content, I'd never go home.

And actually, I used to live in the Cheyene Meadows neighborhood of Colorado Springs. I was 5 minutes from NORADS entrance and couldn't get sh*t for service. Although, Norad would ocasionally test out new radio-frequencies for some of their equipment and it would make the garage door openers for the entire city start to open and close . . . and I'm serious about that.
