Unhappy

OK, This is what I can recall from a very disturbing article I read this week while waiting to catch a flight.

(I was too cheap to buy the magazine, but was more than happy to browse it in the airport news stand)

It was in this months Esquire magazine, and was about a group of brazilian kids "Funkeiros" from the Favelas.

The basic premise is that these are poor kids that are bussed an hour outside the city (RDJ) to take part in these fights. The club "funk" music hypes them up, and the are grouped by favela, or by which soccer club they support, and form two lines accross from each other. The security patrol the center aisle (For some reason, the security are called "Germans"). Basically, the two sides taunt and throw punches at each other until they get closer and closer, and all hell breaks lose. Eventually the "Germans" regain the center aisle using pieces of hose, and rope.

Apparently it has gotten out of hand, and has lead to several deaths. It looks like there might actually be corporate sponsorship of these events!

Anyone ever heard of this? Bizarre!

This use to happen but the bailes are now safe and no more Lado A vs Lado B fighting in the party. The traficantes control the party and do not want police there, so no more fighting in the funk party.
