During the summer i went to Cali to spend some time training. While there i realized i had practiced my guard alot and mount escapes alot, but didnt have much of an "inbetween" game. Anyways Ive worked on it alot and it mainly consists of leglocks if im laying flat on my back in half guard, attacking their free leg for them, and if i can staying on side of my hip and coming out the side towards the trapped leg. Still learning and workin on more things but thats pretty much most effective defense and offense for me. What is yours like?

My half guard sucks. I usually get passed from there and sometimes I just turtle from the half guard instead, and then end up giving my back. Then I tap. I suck.

Thumbs up

Ok I have a little trick when you are in the half guard, the guy will always try to get is leg out but¸he will forget is arm so you grab one of is elbow and pull him so he get close to you, if he dont have experience he will quit cause it will put a pression on the elbow, but if you know he wont quit that will be the litlle shock you need to flip him and when you are on top of him you already have is arm for a juji or a armbar try it worked for me

Cool

My half guard is weak and we just worked on a few moves that will definitely help my game.

i can vouch that sweep's half guard sucks... i pass through it like a hot knife through butter (lol).

my half guard is okay... im usually successful at getting full guard back.

what works for me is grabbing the pant of his "escaped leg" at the knee and controling that leg. either lift it or push it down just enough to get your leg passed it to get full guard.

there's also a cool "elevator" move from that control position to get full guard. it's kinda hard to explain, but maybe i'll show it to sweep and he can try and explain(lol).

TRAIN ON!

I think I do pretty well with half-guard. I really try to use the foot hooking my opponent's ankle to the best advantage. Most times that with my other leg figure-4'd under it, I can even put painfull pressure on my opponent's ankle.

What I have trouble with is escaping the mount. I am trying to work on bridging more but I cannot seem to execute the arm-wrap-and-bridge very well. You know, the one where you wrap the arm that is punching your head?

Well I think that my half guard game decent. And it never has been better than decent. It is one of my favorite positions when I'm on the bottom though. It's alot funner than the guard to me.Most of the time,I go back to the guard(Or try too). But now,I reall dont like going back to the guard.I try to take the back by sliding my hips out and with my outside arm, grabbing under my opponents far arm-pit.Then I throw my leg over and pull myself ontop. It's only worked once out of the numoris times i've tried it.All the other times I just get mounted.

Okay, time to switch positions. When I get cought in the half guard,I couldnt pass the half guard if my life depended on it.I always end up getting submitted by compresion lock.
