![]() | I'm an amatuer Shooto guy in training...I'll be fighting within the next six months unless I get injured again. What exactly would you like to know?

![]() | Well the training schedule really depends on yourself. Pretty much anyone is allowed to compete. There are a good number of casual practitioners that enter. You should definitely train your endurance before fighting, though. Although it is amateur level competition, I still don't think you should count on winning your division unless you are one of those guys who trains religiously. It's good experience for anybody, but victory still seems to be reserved for serious fighters. There can be a HELL of a lot of striking involved in the matches. The rounds are short and the main object is really to put your opponent out as quick as possible. Points do not get awarded for stalling in position so most guys tend to try to quickly force a submission or just bomb on you with punches kicks and knees until you go down. Most of the time the key seems to be aggression. Sometimes you'll get guys who just like to charge at you full speed and immediately tackle you and get dominant position. In those situations there might not be much striking involved. But in general I'd say there's a good amount of striking involved. But a lot of guys in there don't really want to risk getting knocked out so a lot of times they'll just thai kick and jab at each other at long range before clinching up and going for takedowns. But when you do get an aggressive puncher in there, you'll definitely see a melee of striking and quite possibly, a KO. There are stand ups in the event of stalemates on the ground, but it doesn't seem to happen that much. The pace is pretty much always fast and furious. By the time stalemates usually happen, the round is over. Hope that helps
