It's what you make it and how you apply it. It all depends on your body type and how you are built. If you don't practice hard you wont get good. Instructor or no instrutor you must practice hard. Practicing every day is what makes you good. Practicing several times a day is what makes you great.

You're welcome. Try and focus on being well rounded as a martial artist. ie. kicks, punches, takedowns, throws, groundwork, locks, breaks...........................................

LOL several times a day? Some of us actually have lives and can't practice that much. I don't think someone who practices several times a day is necessarily better than someone who practices once a week. In fact, if you need to practice that much to be good, that's pretty pathetic.
The old ancient styles (especially the Japanese/Chinese/Korean) are not as good as some of the more modern ones because they have a lot of tradition, which might seem cool but doesn't really have any practical use. |

You all make good points. If u don't train hard u won't be any stronger. Also the old styles are different because theyre out dated, but are still somewhat effictive. theyre not as good as newer styles because people fight different now a'days.

But that's just it, I would never get into a fight with someone who trains that much in the first place.
I could see you practicing that much if you are a professional fighter, but what about those of us who only practice so that we can defend ourselves from random street thugs or whatever? We shouldn't have to give up 50 hours a week just to be decent fighters. Which brings us back to the original topic of this thread... The traditional ancient martial arts are of less practical use on the street against some random thug, than newer modern styles. |
