    Newbie

    Hello,

In the past I've been slightly interested in UFC and MMA, but never really had a whole lot of access to it. A while back I got into my first 'real' altercation that ended up in a 2 on 2 brawl.

Long story short, my girlfriend called me and said some guy was grabbin her butt and invading her personal space, so I got directions to the house she was at. It ended up being his house and she was there with her friend (it was her friends boyfriend).

Anyways, I was at a friends house at the time, so he came along with me, and we went to this guys house. I walked in and saw the guy, and he was like 25-26 (about 7 years older than me) & alot bigger than me as I'm not a big guy at all. Next thing I know, I'm beating him over the head with his own frying pan while my friend is fighting his friend.

Ever since, I've been really interested in fighting. I've always been good at wrestling around with friends, but I think I'd like to start training with MMA and maybe do some competition, or just for the hell of it.

But theres a big question mark. I don't know what style would fit me best, where I should start out at, or anything. Any websites/articles explaining any techniques would be nice. I just don't want to waste my time and money with something thats not going to be useful.

Basically what I want to accomplish out of this, is to not have to rely on pure rage so that I dont end up killing someone after I hit them with something. If that makes any sense.

Sorry for it being so lengthy, but I'd appreciate any help.

To me, and I may be wrong, it seems that you are not interested in becoming a UFC competitor, just a more controlled fighter.

If you just want to become a better, more controlled fighter, any art that full-contact spars, and has fights would be what you want. Basically you have to get in there and be confident in your skills in order to remian calm while fighting. Boxing, MT, karate, whatever, as long as they are committed to making better fighters.

Its kind of hard to explain. I think I can still use my temper to fight, if I know what I'm doing and have confidence in striking or whatever it is that i'm doing to them, without having any urges to grab a weapon.

Watch out for 'uncontrollable rage' as you put it, or adrenaline rather, you get. While you're beating on some guy, his friend may start shanking you in the back to save his pal's life and you may not feel it due to your emotional state and adrenaline, or may have attacked your girlfriend, you never know.

Rex Kwon Do or Pan-Fry Dough

Your rage problem isn't gonna be solved by any MA. Anger Management or growing up will do just fine. You just might be ever more dangerous with legit MA skills.

Funny thing happens as you mature mentally & physically and train in some bad-ass MA - unless you plan to use it for competition or some law enforcement capacity, the likelyhood that you will use it is low.

When I was a juvenile and into my early 20s, I had a very rudimentary grasp of grappling/submissions (circa early UFC days, prior to MMA) and even then I was able to throw down and have my way with people most of the time. Had I had the knowledge and skills I have now (and I'm just a scumbag BJJ blue belt) back in those days of my stupid youth and unrestrained anger, I could've regretably hurt someone seriously.

Look man, I sympathize with you. You just have to realize that if you have an attractive girlfriend, guys will hit on her. It's also her responsibility as to how she handles those situations (she should have left the minute this guy was comin' on too strong). Plus, is an aggravated assault or attempted murder charge worth an ass grab? Slashing his tires would've sufficed don't you think?

Actually, law enforcement is the field i'm going to. Believe it or not

And its not really a very big deal now since its done & over with, but just hitting on her would have been a different story. She was only 15 at the time, no licenses no vehicle and no one to drive her anywhere (except that guy). She called me as soon as she could, so I couldn't really blame her for it, only thing she did wrong was trust her friend.

The point is, the fight gave me a desire to fight (in an organized way) or something of that sort, so I'd like to learn something. And in MA, a big part of it is staying calm and in control, from what I've heard.

Which leads back to my temper, I think I would be more controlled once I've learned how to keep myself calm and use what I know. Because right now, basically all I know is Pan Fry Dough as you called it.

I'm still kind of blank on this, but thanks for all of the replies.

Thanks for clearing up the details FPHartley54.

I think your temper/anger with fighting stems from your lack of fighting skills. I'm gonna go with you and say that you should find a legit MA to train in (Boxing, MT, BJJ, wrestling, Judo, Sambo,...). I think bc you don't know how to skillfully scrap, the anger/temper is a natural by-product - can't control the adrenaline, the breathing, and the situation. With proper training, along with the skills learned, you'll acclimate physically and emotionally as well.

Good luck with training and getting on the force.

    Thanks.

Already some-what familiar with boxing and wrestling, but i'll check out MT/BJJ/Judo/Sambo to see which one fits me best.
