Cool

Today's Christmas and is it too early to start to think about your New Year's resolutions?

Hmmmm, I don't think so.

Well, I thought I'd start a topic of the question;

What is your New Year's Resolution?

Lose weight, gain weight, work out more, train more, get that next leve belt, go to more seminars, compete more...?

Here's mine which is pretty simple:
I would like to stay injury free and compete in a major tournament. I'm sure that I need to come up with more.

Continue getting stronger, and more defined,

Finish second and third parts of a story I'm writing.

Publish and or get into contact with an agent of some kind with that story

Find another girlfriend (haha )

Get up to a 350 or 400 bench press (on machines at least)
at least 300 with frees

and finish off a bachelor's degree in philosophy in preparation to another possible trip to Japan.

If in Japan, enroll at the Kodokan.

Hmm, good one. I believe pretty strongly in the 3 way a person should develop, so I'll address each one.

Mentally: I'd like to work on my MBA, but with 2 little girls at home, I think my time is better spent playing Barbies and painting finger paints! (OK, OK, so my wife doesn't appreciate the fact that my 3 year old knows how to pass the guard.. so sue me!)

Physically: Work BJJ! I'll also be starting some boxing with a trainer in the spring. Should be an eye opener (probably more of an eye-closer with my skills!)

Spiritually: Continue the Non-Profit MA program (we're in our 2nd year). I see a lot of kids looking for something to identify with, something to give them a sense of worth. God has richly blessed my family, and i'm trying to pass some of that along.

Thumbs up

I know the feeling...I'm tempted on singing "memories" right about now LOL.

Good luck with your training. You're still growing, and it sounds like you might end up being a really decent sized guy, so don't sweat it.

Take care,
Ryu

YeLLa, by the way,
do you want some fight experience?? You are getting better with submission fighting right? Well in Toronto my ex-girlfriend is dating this skinny white guy. If you'd like you can kick his ass. You've got at least 30 pounds on him!

...well I guess that wouldn't be nice...
nevermind

LOL

Hey I'll do it!

Ryu, I was never ever happy in the three years, except briefly when I was in LA with my friends last dec. Every morning I wake up for school , I just try to count down each day and hope I will last.

I got two words for you

CANADA SUCKS.

Damn, I've visited often, but have never lived there. Hmm well you're almost at the age where you'll be going to college and you can possibly return to LA and begin your young adult years. So hang in there, buddy.
I know what it feels like to be living in a place you don't like..trust me.

Keep kicking ass though

Ryu

The crappy deal about is that everyone is graduated and will be in colleges and stuff. So it really leaves me no ends you know? Its too bad I was really tight with my friends in LA cause it makes me miss that place too much! Im even taking a girl to her senior prom in cali. next year. Yeah it doesnt help to have the one girl you care for in another country either. However my complaints are in vain, besides so many other people have such big problems, mine seem insignifcant in comparison. I just think that I should be grateful for the lifestyle I am living.

It's tough. And it sucks. But don't count yourself out so easily. If you want to get back to LA you'll do it. And even though it is hard to have feelings for someone far away, it can still work out great. I was with my GF for 2 years. And I have to admit that they were good ones.
I used to live in Washington State when I was in High School, and I hated it. I had the worst time, had little friends, and got into fights, shunned, and laughed on a regular basis. But trust me in the next couple years you'll find out you have the potential to start opening up a new chapter in your life. The cool thing is that you will have lots of opportunities when you are in your 20's (or even 18 and 19) that you never had when you were younger. I guess for right now you might have to sit tight, but time's on your side.

Take care,

Ryu

Whoa! It isnt that bad! I dont get into fights ands stuff and happily Im cool with everyone. But I find from country to country or region to region, people keep their "close" friends at different levels. Like here, no one is really really really tight with each other. The people I knew in LA, we all promised each other to take bullets for each other if we had to, sorta childish, but in our minds we would do it, even to this day. I just miss being with all of my "brothers" and "sisters" but jeez you had it rough Ryu, judging from the way you express yourself, I'd say fate has paid you back several times over. Am I right??

YeLLa,
I had a not so good time in High school. I was awkward, overweight, and felt very unattractive, and out of place. For what its worth I'm glad I didn't follow the crowd, but I did feel very bad in a lot of ways. The school I went to was a bit ignorant I felt. I'll put it this way, our school mascott was the Hiroshima mushroom cloud.
But that was a long time ago, and since I have developed my body, my friends, my relationship skills, and confidence so I guess I'm doing pretty well. I'm still a quiet guy with different values from most everyone else, but I don't feel like a outcast or anything anymore
I think the teen years are just tough. You'll be much happier when you're out of them LOL.
But it sounds like you have everything pretty much cool. So definately give props to yourself for that.
Just maybe homesick blues huh?

Talk to you later,
Ryu

Oh yes, I forgot to mention.
Living in LA, the kind of "brotherhood" mentality with taking a bullet for the other probably stemmed from the environment itself. LA being what it is.
In Canada...well I doubt that kind of mentality would even cross their minds.
