![]() | BJJ sure has had such a strong influence. Judo Guy do you think that most judoka seriously overlook newaza ability? The Kimura's of the world seem to be rare. Ryu

![]() | Hi Ryu, I don't think that overlooking is the proper word. Certainly, newaza isn't nearly as important as tachiwaza in judo. I think the proper balance for tournament success would be 80/20 or 75/25. You can become a world champion in judo without ever dedicating much time to newaza. The reverse is not true. Any judoka who wants to wear Olympic or World gold has to put most of his time and effort into tachiwaza. Of course there are going to be judoka who are exceptional in newaza. But as a rule, the BJJ athletes will always be superior to the judoka athletes in newaza. Unless the rules of judo change, which isn't very likely. |

![]() | thanks for the link. I posted some thoughts on that thread. Ryu, Thanks. I was trying to spell it phonetically. I guess I got most of it right. My Japanese vocabulary is pretty limited! [Edited by judo guy on 12-27-2000 at 09:35 PM] |

![]() | There's a strong mix of articulate posters there, and complete bafoons. How many people are in the Underground exactly? Does anyone know a rough estimate?

![]() | They say they got 50,000 members but this all bull$hit. I estimate they have between 300-500 members. The 50,000 just helps them ask more money for advertising. I noticed the merry christmas thread that asked for all members to reply only has under 200 replies. Does this mean the other 49,800 members are on holidays? I dont think so. To say they got 50,000 members is misleading.
