Default Bas rutten's challenge to rickson

Now, I know that bas challenged rickson in pancrase. But I was wondering if anyone knew why rickson would'nt fight him... Bas rutten himself said he challenged Rickson atleast ten times before. He said he even went to brazil one time and challenged him......

I don't know, but Bas seems like such a nice guy. He kicks tons of ass, but underneath he seems like just a really cool dude!

Really??? Damn, I would of loved to have seen Royce fight Ruas. I've always wondered who was better..... But anyway, back to the topic at hand, I really think if there was one person who could of beaten Rickson it would of been Bas.....

In this world there are tons of people looking to make a reputation. Do you think it is wise to fight everyone who is trying to make a rep off of you? No, you pick and choose and fight to preserve your honor or if you are a professional fighter, you look for the best pay day. Talk is cheap, you gotta save face.

I still think rickson should of gave Bas a chance, I mean he beat some of the top fighters in pancrase.... He deserved a shot at him. I've always just thought Rickson was just to scared to fight him... Although I hate to say that cause Ricksons so awsome.

That's very wise, Hardball. Thanks for the insight.

rickson isnt scared of anyone. If you have read any biography on him you will know that he of all people wouldnt be scared of fighting bas. Rickson has done his time,he doesnt need to prove anything anymore. Im sure there more than just bas challenging him for a fight. why choose bas?? if anyone deserves a shot at him it would be sakuraba.

Didn't this guy already beat Royce and another Gracie? I must be mistaken, I thought he beat Rickson also. He was the subject of an article in Black Belt magazine a while back entitled, "Gracie Killer". I believe his primary style is Judo. Judo, Black Belt.

The truth of the matter is this: The Gracies left the scene just in time, because they would have been run over by MMA. Seriously, they got more than they bargained for. The BJJ revolution came and went, then MMA came and it changed everything. Now, we're back at square one... Everyone knows the ground game, so the best striker, or pure fighter wins.

I'm not taking anything away from the Gracies, I'm just saying they realize the Jack is outta the box. As I recall, Royce was supposed to fight Mark Kerr... Next thing you know, Royce goes into the hospital for some unidentified ailment. Then, the Japanese tell Rickson to fight Coleman or Kerr and Rickson chooses to fight Takada again. Can anyone guess why?

These are strategic moves to maintain the Gracie mystic. The only Gracie who continually competes is Royler and he's found out that other people have come a long way in a short time.

Sakuraba has defeated Renzo, Royler, Royce and Ryan Gracie... Needless to say, he's got their number.

Well you see Bas challenged Rickson long before Sakuraba was even heard of in MMA... It was in about 1996 or 1997..

Oh and Pstevens, that's true Sakuraba did beat most of the Gracies. But I still think Rickson would take him..

first of all...sakuraba's nick name is "the gracie hunter", not the gracie killer.

second...rickson should have given bas a chance. by 1997, he had more than proven himself, (2 wins over frank shamrock to name a few).

finally...that would have been a damn good fight. back in 96/97, the gracies still had a few tricks up their sleeves

Could'nt agree with more zhorner. Bas really deserved a shot at Rickson. To be honest I think if there was anyone who could of taken him it would of been Bas...... Like you said he beat Frank shamrock twice, plus he defeated Funaki. These were some of the top fighters in Pancrase.....
