Default Other Arts = BJJ Belt

Hey im just wondering if you know other grappling or jiu jitsu or whatever from another art, could you just go to a BJJ class and ask for a belt test.

Like say you could tap out all the blue belts in their class, could you ask for a purple?

I do Krav Maga and most of the ground work in it is from BJJ, actually probably 95%+ is bjj.

My Krav Maga teacher is at least a purple belt in BJJ, (I remember him saying, back in the day when I was a BJJ purple belt at this tournament...)

soo he may be higher.

Im fairly confident that I could destroy all the white belts, and probably whatever belt is just above that in a grappling match from my wrestling/jiu jitsu, and just over all brute force (not as good as technique but it definetly helps).

Anyway what do you think, I dont really need to gratify myself with "oh ive got a brand new belt", but Id like to know where I stand in the grappling world and I think BJJ is best to measure myself against.

if you competed at the purple level you ought to be able to tap whitebelts...

you didnt read it correctly, I said my grappling instructor is at least a purple, I have no belt whatsoever.

Im looking for a belt ranking to see where I stand in the world of grappling.

there are actually alot of damn good whitebelts out there. i know some mma fighters who are whitebelts and they kick ass. also there are the whitebelts who have been training for years, however they never went for promotion, they just kept training. in additon to that there are white belts who may have backrounds in other arts, like wrestling or judo, and will not be easy to finish despite being begginers in bjj.

btw, bjj grappling is way more in depth than the grappling u will learn in a mixed art like krav maga, and kajukenbo and whatnot, therfore it is usually stronger. bjj'ers spend all their time working on grappling, while a mixed art would spend more like 40 % of their time working on grappling.

if u were to join a bjj class, u wouldnt test for a belt. u would train and if u demonstrated great ability and did good in competitions u would probobly just get promoted faster.

Yes, you should test your skills in a BJJ club. if you tap the blue belts then you have a chance to be considered for blue belt.

But my club will expect you to tap the other blue belts in an open tournaments also.

No, there is no belt test, Bjj belts are awarded on performance.
You just do not 'sit' an exam to demonstrate an armbar for e.g.
You still have to demonstrate techniques during graduation exam but it is just for the form.

Be ready for the 'belting' during graduation lol

-a 500lb shaq isnt going to get a blue belt just because he can sit on blue belts and make them tap, you gotta know technique to advance. and no instructor will hand you a belt in one outting, you gotta go to class at least a few times and he can see how you handle yourself against him and the other students, then at some point he'll give you a belt where he thinks you belong

Alrite, maybe ill just enter the schools open to anyone grappling tournament, and try to win that. That will give me a reference of how good my skills are.
