Default Newbie here.

Hey guys, just introducing myself here. I'm Ethan/26 from Hartford,CT. I have some training in a few other arts (Wing Chun, Kempo, Arnis) and I am currently training in Muay Thai (only for a month so far and loving it). Recently my Kru told us he also teaches BJJ and they are starting to teach it next week at my school. Having never done any BJJ before any tips or suggestions? I do go to the gym a couple days a week, any specific exercises/stretches that would help me out? This seems like a great forum and very informative. Thanks.

The only thing I can suggest is to make sure you get your neck muscles strong. Neck bridges are what we live by at our school. I would also do body weight exercises ie... (hindu or scoop) pushups, squats, pullups. For your cardio, if you don't skip rope already or run, I suggest you start now. At least every other day to start.
Run at least 1 - 2 mile every other day (every now and then drop down and do push ups - pull up) then go from there.
OR Skip 2 min, then 1 min of push ups, 2 min of rope skipping 2 min of pullups cont.. until you get at least 10 min. great warm up (it's what we use). Cardio is important because if you are tired, you might get hurt, or you may be on the side throwing up while the instructor is teaching something important. If you need more or have specific questions, I (along with others) will try our best to help you! Good luck!

-cardio is important. Abs is very important too. You will do stretching before class I am sure, hopefully. Its good to stretch your back real good, lay on the mat and grab your knees, hold them for a bit, then let them go and lay flat, then roll all the way back and try to touch your knees to the mat next to your head by your ears.........lots of things you can do, look at guys that are more advanced that are stretching and copy them too if theyre there, or ask the instructor

Yes, the excercise that Omoplata describes where you roll backwards and touch the mat is probably the most important stretch in my opinion. It gets both your neck and back nice and warmed up.

Or passing out, confused, or iritable. Good point!

Keep hydrated!
