Default So I had a little episode today...

made me feel a little foolish, but proud...

I was driving home, when this fella kept trying to drive slow in front of me (which irritated me). Anyway, I pass him (his car sucks) and am on about my business. Next thing I know, he is next to me, engine screaming, swerving towards my car like he is trying to hit me. I lose it and start screaming that he is to pull over (which he likely doesn't hear, since his window is rolled up). he gives me the slow bird and a stupid look. I look around looking for something to throw at him, and resort to throw my favorite water bottle at his car, figuring he'd pull over for sure now.

Anyway, he doesn't, and after another mile or so we reach a stoplight where I need to turn left to get home. He stays in his (right lane), and I get into my left turn lane. by this time I am just shaking my head, trying to calm down. A minute or two later, this cat maneuvers out of his lane, and pulls in behind me and after another little while gesticulates like he wants something. WTF?

I just shake my head and try to ignore him, but before I know it I see the guy opening his door. I am out of the car in about 1 second and headed for him. He is about my size, but probably 10 or 15 years older (im 33), and out of shape. I hear him say "bring it," but not real convinced. by now I am in his face asking him if he is a f*cking @sshole on purpose or what? His reponse "yeah, I'm an asshole." He seems pretty angry too, as his lip is trembling.

Now in an almost unbelievable display of good decisionmaking, I turn around and walk back to my car (as Im walking I hear tuffguy tell me "get back into your car, little boy"), get in and pull up to wait for the light, which by now had truned green and red again.

He backs up, and hauls ass past me (straight, that light was still green), missing my car by maybe an inch. I consider chasing him for about a second, but decide that I'd made the right choice, and just stay where I am, waiting for my light, alowing my pulse to return to normal.

Discuss...

You made the right decision in not fighting him but I personally think turning your back on him like that was a bit daring. He could've become enraged when you turned around and beat the hell out of you.

nah, this guy wasn't a fighter. It would have been a slaughter if we had started (exept if he had a knife or gun of course). He was reaching for his back pocket as I was turning away from him, but who knows what for.

I'm not saying I'm a badass, this guy was just that pathetic...

I did take step back before turning around, just in case.

Ahoym8,

Some people get flustered on the highway pretty easily. The first thing I'd say is to let obnoxious drivers fly, because in any given city there's bound to be a good number of either incompetent or road rage infected people. And in this guys case, he could've been inspired to be violent by who knows what...drugs, temper...what have you.

Scuffling over bad driving ain't worth it. Busting an arm drag into RNC on some out of shape, inexperienced fella on an ego trip would look bad on your part, especially if it wasn't life threatening. If he'd been packing, it could've been uglier.

You did the right thing by blowing it off.

Besides, what if you had to roll on the concrete with broken glass and lava....just kidding.

Thumbs up

seems to me it would of been a perfect time for one of my favorite moves that I have executed twice in my younger days. first step: make sure you are the first person out of the car. step 2: run up to other drivers car as quickly as possible. step 3:as other driver attempts to get out of their car you grab there door and slam it repeatedly on the leg sticking out. make sure not to let go of the door after the first slam. hold onto door so you can get a few shots in on the leg. step 4 (optional) as other driver is on ground clenching his freshly broken leg start thowing punches down on him or soccer kick his head and stomp his body. final step and most important: run back to your car and leave scene as quickly as possible to avoid assault charges and or civlil lawsuits which can be very costly. With my five step instuctional on how to fight a road rager you should be all set for your next sunday drive. For a small fee i will send you a video where i willl break down every move in slow motion and also show some alternate finishing moves. i am undefeated in fights where i have employed this technique which I call car door slam koon do.

Sounds like two idiots I saw a while back. One guy was following a bit too close (like up his tailpipe) so the front car decides to stop suddenly and confront the guy about tailgating... stalling a line of cars behind him for nothing but a pissy rant...

Grow up already.

Ahoym8e, you did the right thing.....I live in L.A. where the drivers can be supreme assholes, where everyday can be a challenge to drive safely. Anger management is a daily exercise on the freeways here. I do a lot of "self talk" to keep myself calm and centered. Some things I say to myself when Mr. A-hole cuts me off are, "This won't mean shit a year from now"....and, "It ain't worth ending up in a coffin or a cage", and also, "I can't afford a civil lawsuit"....By walking away you may have given yourself a way out of a lot of legal grief or possible death or criminal charges. It just isn't worth it. In the very least you may injure yourself taking the guy out, and then you can't train for a while!!! Hell no!

No, in this case the most very tempting thing was just a straight cross to the chin he was pointing at me. Really had to resist that urge.

You're forgetting his three buddies that jump out from under the manhole cover to stomp on my head while we are on the ground with the lava and glass. Come on, Tom, I thought you were an expert.

Without a doubt, not submitting some old POS in the middle of an intersection was the proper course of action. I have too much to lose to engage in that type of foolishness.

However, people who purposefully impede my agenda or endanger me just to be @ssholes really get my blood boiling. Need to find some mechanism to cope with that.

Try meditation... I visualize myself in a demolition derby bashing his car off the roadway for the victory... And give them room to be stupid. It's not worth the stress to let them drag you into the rat-race too. Wear a motorcycle (crash) helmet in your car... maybe they think you're crazy and leave you alone...
