    Choosing the best style for yourself

    In response to the many threads of people unsure of what or where to train, I have this to say. There is no perfect style for anyone, you just do what you feel comfortable with. You know yourself better than anyone, so that's the first place to start. For example, if you don't like being entangled with sweaty, smelly men, then grappling arts may not be for you. On the other hand, if you can't take a punch, you may decide on grappling arts.

    The main thing is to just go out there and try it... Some people just cross train, while others stick to one particular style or curriculum. It's your life, so try to make the most of it and have fun. Don't worry about what other people say, including what I'm saying now... Just have fun with it...

    Choosing a martial art is difficult. Not one can truely help another in all of life's desires and choices.

    My suggestion is to take one for some years, then move on to another.

    A interesting article I found that someone had posted on another forum;

    Choosing a martial art wasn't difficult for me...

    I did karate because my dad chose it for me, and there was a class in my town. Many years later, I chose BJJ because I'd been reading about it for years, and then my karate teacher arranged for a BJJ teacher to come to our city and teach in one of her rooms twice a week.

    Easy!
