Everybody says Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is the ultimate in grappling. Yes I think Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is excellent I also think Judo is excellent Jiu Jitsu is excellent Pancrase is excellent. But Sambo now I think Sambo is Brillant. Sambo has been proved effective both by Oleg Taktarov who also studied Judo & was a champion of The UFC, Also Champion in both Judo & Sambo .
However Sambo is used by The Russian Army & Russian Special forces as a way to kill an enemy in times of war. Here are some interesting links: http://www.shaolinchowka.com/shaolin...ory/index.html http://www.rus-sambo.com/ http://samboubc.tripod.com/ http://www.groundfighter.com/products/catid/37.html http://www.groundfighter.com/content/pageid/22.html http://home.att.net/~erik.mann/nsrsw1.htm http://home.att.net/~erik.mann/andrei1.htm http://www.russianjudo.com/ |

Posting links doesnt always imply good information. Many martial art sites or information about styles state they are used in the military or something of that association.
I had also heard of Sambo over 12 years ago. And there is another discussion of it on that other thread that Mart Man had linked. |

Judo, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Sombo.... basically all the same but different.
Do you like your peanut butter sandwich with grape, strawberry, or peach jelly? Judo = Throws, Chokes, Armbars BJJ = Chokes, Armbars, Leglocks Sombo = Throws, Armbars, Leglocks It's a generalization so don't jump on my case. If you are interested in grappling, take whatever is available. They all cross-pollinate extremely well.

Google asks "Did you mean: Sambo?" It's a little vowel issue... Sombo/Sambo same, same.
