Besides getting them operated, what do you all do? Tonight I'm hurting! Yes! We wear ear guards, but sometimes I get way into the class and forget to wear them, and then there are the competitions. I've had them operated on before - they cut it open, drain it, stitch it through, and then for about three days you walk around with a small piece of cotton or clamp in your ear. Is there anything you all know about (home remedies) to ease some of the pain?

Thanks for the info guys. This is what I know:
I know of guys that have done the syringe deal, and even go to Mex. and get them done cheaper. In the US ear doc. are walking away from that (draining the ear) because it comes back a lot easier than operating it. I'll try the hot water bottle deal. I respect Randy Couture but he does have some funky ears. Thanks!

Washing soda crystals inside a towel - hold it up against your ear, and leave it there for a few hours (i.e. use it as a pillow and go to sleep on it).
This will drain the ears. Also helps for other swelling - I used it on my knee when I f'd it up a few years ago. The best part was the next day, when the crystals were all wet with the liquid that had been inside my knee the night before, and I was chasing my friend around yelling "KNEE JUICE!!! KNEE JUICE!!!"

Yep, it will drain it through the skin.
It's not laundry detergent, though. That will probably just make you clean and smell fresh like a forest. It's a different thing, I think originally designed to soften hard water or something... Here in Australia, it's kind of hard to get, but my coach and I (as well as the masseur who was the one to put it on my knee), when we see it, we buy the entire stock from the store! Here is some info about washing soda: http://www.care2.com/channels/solutions/home/440
