Awesome Nate Carr seminar
For those who do not know who Nate Carr is, he is an incredible wrestler who was a bronze medalist in the olympics. You can do a search on the internet to find out his numerous other achievments. He is a real funny guy who is good at speaking in front of people. The first part of the seminar began with countering single legs. Some of the moves were common but he made sure that everyone knew the principles to what made them succesful. He also how you could stop the takedown with a thrust of your hips. When he demonstrated this with the partner the guy was nailed so hard by the hip that he ended up spinning around. Another fun move to practice was when the person is standing with your leg you get in front of them, get an overhook pry fight the hand, and drop back and do a little kick between the legs sweeping him over you. He said he learned this move from a vale tudo champ and he personally used it in the Olympics. After a lunch break we came back and he taught us snap downs from various positions. He was a good teacher always emphasizing the principles that made the moves succesful. After that he gave us a speech about how you should not let reputation intimidate you and go out and fight the persons body. He related to a story about how back when he was in high school his brother let him wear his Olympic warmup to a tournament. Half the guys were so nervous that they pretty much did the dying cockroach when wrestling him. However when he wrestled this hillbilly kid who did not care who his brother was or that he was wearing an olympic warmup he got killed. Carr said this is what he imagined the boy's father telling his son
Hillbilly Father: Now I want you to grab his arm. If he pulls it back, shoot. If he doesn't pull it back, shoot.
Carr also told about playing off a persons natural reaction. He was absolutely hilarious with his speech and I was cracking up the whole time but the message he conveyed was serious.
