Taijutsu is one of many Koryu of the traditional Bujutsu ryuha. There were also torite, toride, hade, hakude, kumi-uchi, etc. Ju-Jutsu schools all the same.

These specalized in generally weaponless forms.

If you wanted to learn gunnery you went to a hojutsu Koryu

all i read was the first post, call me lazy but here is my 2 cents.

people selling tapes on how to understand the secrets of gladiator conbat are frauds, bjj/such isnt so much. I think as long as people respect the roots (and include it in the name.... brazilian JUIJITSU), that it is rather acceptable. These peope shouldnt be claiming that thousands of years of martial art is made invalid by thier new "system", and i dont think anyone claims that. I see BJJ and other such names as being little tweeks on an older asian system, and i surely give most of the credit to the masters who have worked and worked on the origional martial art. However, undoubtably, former masters renames the art a bit to fit thier system or techniques, these name changes arent really all that important, but the constant tinkering with body mechanics and martial art is what MADE IT WHAT IT IS. If everyone did the same moves over and over martial art wouldnt evolve.

as long as people credit the past, they should be allowed to tamper with martial art, only furthering it. BJJ has brough about allot of martial art attention, as have many other arts, the old real names of the martial arts hsould always be respected and kept sacred, but these tweeks are not very disrespectful, but they are rather needed to further martial arts.

Aiki-in-yo-ho's taijutsu (Aiki no jutsu) is different from Jujutsu in philosophy only. Instead of yeilding to force or giving way to applied force (Ju or Wawara) the idea is to blend or become one with the energy of your attacker. Hence the name "Body art", the origin lies in the Aiki philosophy which I see as tending to appear more aggressive.

Elements of the old can still be found today if you look around but as to where it comes from exactly, I couldn't say.
